The Cynical Life

"The Cynical Life of Harper Hall" is the story of a lovably cynical, failed 20-something children's book author,  who works out of a local coffee shop attempting to pen something more 'Disney' commercially viable than "When Barney's Parents Died in the Lava".

Harper's life is toppled when she finds out her musician boyfriend / love-of-her-cynical-life is cheating on her with the illegitimate daughter of David Hasselhoff... and has stolen her savings.  She moves in with her little sister, "Sparrow", an aspiring 'actress!' who sells her eggs to an Invitro clinic in Beverly Hills for rent money.

Harper is suddenly dragged, unwittingly, into a whole new horror-filled world... being late twenties, NOT an actress, and suddenly single in Los Angeles.

Our Story
Meeting this funding goal = three Cynical episodes!!

The Cynical Life as it stands is a spec pilot we independently shot over fourteen days last month.  When we decided to do it,  everyone in Los Angeles told us we were... well, insane.  We had no money, no cast, no crew... and, well, I was sitting in my living room with a massive glass of wine and a script.  My two co-producers and I said screw it... and less than two weeks later, a pilot was born.

In the past month since we shot Cynical:  we've gotten calls from three major networks, a ton of press including a spread in Bunker Hill Magazine, Lionsgate (freakin' Lionsgate) as a screening venue, and just completed a test shoot for William Rast jeans (see the image below!)

The energy around this project isn't something any of us fully foresaw coming...

SO:  The goal, now, is to re-shoot the pilot + two amazing episodes with a great crew, the right equipment, and a less we're-all-going-to-OD-on-energy-drinks timeframe.

GOAL:  $9500 through this campaign!

What You Get For Helping (+Hollywood Heart Foundation)

The Cynical Life will donate a portion of the fundraising proceeds to Hollywood Heart Foundation.  You'll be helping great kids go to camp this summer, and some of the Cynical cast & crew will also be volunteering.

The raised money goes into everything we need to shoot a pilot (and even so, we'd still be doing this at 90% on trade):  equipment rentals, lighting, sound, paying editors, getting the cast and crew fed with something other than beer, $1 Store Pringle Knock-Offs and coffee . . . and my god, so much more.  Even $10 bucks helps.  Seriously!

So: help us a little (or, if you're, like, some San Tropez Trotting Prince... a lot, would be... great...), and not only will you be assisting some kids and a wonderful foundation, but you'll help us to properly produce three Cynical episodes, we'll invite you to the red carpet wrap party (and maybe even the premiere at Lionsgate in Los Angeles!), and randomly send you cool stuff like Cynical t-shirts, signed scripts by the cast, and more!

Plus, if you donate enough money, myself and our female cast will personally come wash your car and/or make you ... brownies ... or something, totally domestic.  So!

Our Cast!

Finally - our crew, and cast - are ridiculously phenomenal (wanna know how ridiculously phenomenal?  Scroll down below for cast bios, links, and photos - they're all tragically good looking, and talented too).
