Do you remember the first album you ever bought?
It was 1986, dad just got a CD player for the family, and all I wanted was the Top Gun soundtrack. I couldn't wait to go to Tower Records, pull out my crumpled bills and pennies, and hold the disc in my hands. Of course, it took forever to open the damn thing because of the Fort Knox-like security case (you know, the long plastic cage that made the CD too large to stuff in your pocket). I must've played "Danger Zone" 1,000 times--and I didn't have to rewind it once! Today, however, if I want a song I can download it--any time, any where. No waiting. No case to open. While it's hard to beat the convenience of an MP3 player, there's something missing from the equation: there's nothing to hold...nothing tangible.
The feeling I get when I think back to those moments inspired me to write SYNC. The film tells the story of Bobby, a teenage boy given the task of entertaining his estranged grandfather (who is in the process of moving to a nursing home). The theme of old versus new, fresh versus obsolete, drives the story. My goal for SYNC is to create a film that visualizes how I feel, not only about the multitude of ways to enjoy music, but the people in my life--young and old.
I have assembled a crew that truly is the best fo the best, wonderful actors, and a pair of musical collaborators (hip hop up-and-comers Kung Foo Grip, and piano virtuoso Patrick Moraz) whose music will be the perfect compliment to the story. This is where you come in...
Technology has made the craft of filmmaking much more accessible; there are certain expenses, however, that are vital to creating a quality film. I wrote the script with economy in mind, and I come to IndieGoGo asking for your help in making SYNC the best film it can be. Your contributuion will help pay for:
Sound
Lighting
Cinematography
Chow for the cast and crew
Finishing services
Festival expenses
By contributing you'll not only help create a film, you'll be eligible to receive a variety of different goodies or "perks" based on your level of support (see the sidebar). Thank you for considering my project, and I hope you'll be a part of SYNC!
