About Me

I am a Professor of Law and Director of the Biederman Entertainment and Media Law Institute at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. I also practice entertainment law, representing talent and executives; production companies, distributors, and other entertainment companies; and financiers such as banks, private equity funds, and high net worth individuals.

Before coming to Southwestern, I was a Professor at Chapman University’s Law School and Dodge School of Film and Media Arts.

I am the former President & COO of Village Roadshow Pictures, which produced some pretty good (if decidedly unindependent) movies, including THE MATRIX Trilogy, OCEAN’S 11 (and 12 and 13), CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, TRAINING DAY, THREE KINGS and MYSTIC RIVER. (Yeah, we also brought you CATWOMAN, RED PLANET and THE ADVENTURES OF PLUTO NASH. Sorry.)

Before joining Village Roadshow, I was an entertainment lawyer at Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown, where I represented a variety of film and television, producers, directors, writers, actors and executives.

I am a graduate of USC Film School and University of Chicago Law School. After law school, I was a law clerk to Supreme Court Justices William J. Brennan, Jr. and David H. Souter, as well as Chief Judge Abner J. Mikva of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
