About Solipsistic Pop

Solipsistic Pop is an anthology designed to spotlight the best in alternative comic art from the UK. The anthology was created by Tom Humberstone who edits and publishes the series.

It features diverse, beautiful, twisted and peculiar comics that you wont be able to find anywhere else. Comic artists old and new are encouraged to contribute. The book provides a support structure and outlet for UK alternative comic artists.

Each book of Solipsistic Pop is a boutique, tactile product with a specific theme. A bespoke, unique artefact designed to suit the content of each edition with a limited printrun.

There are currently three volumes of Solipsistic Pop. Every copy of the book has been printed with environmentally sustainable inks and paperstock by Calverts.

Solipsistic Pop continues to set the bar high for other British comics anthologies, and it seems as though this community of artists is committed to the anthologys future success.  Its the rare anthology where I wanted to see more work from virtually everyone included, and that sort of quality and effort reflects the commitment it took to make this such an engaging read - The Comics Journal

This is a carefully considered, lovingly crafted and utterly covetable compendium, a confirmation of the pleasure of comics in printed inks on quality paper stock [...] Dont have any second thoughts about purchasing this - Paul Gravett

A good collection of people who seem on the verge of really hitting their stride with comics, kinda like the early Kramers Ergot books - Jeffrey Brown

Im a lover of anthologies, and will be the first to admit, most of em are more miss than hit. This puppy is almost all hit - Top Shelf

Its sumptuous, beautiful, stirring, optimistic stuff, an anthology to move the British self-published/small press scene into the next decade - Forbidden Planet International

Book Four

Solipsistic Pop returns this November with Book Four: Maps featuring, as always, the finest new and established comic artists based in the UK.

Book Four will be the largest and most ambitious volume yet with 80 pages, 30 artists, a larger print-run of 1,000, and extensive interactive material that makes full use of the joy of the printed artefact.

This will be the first volume of Solipsistic Pop to come with an ISBN to allow schools, libraries, colleges and bookstores to order copies.

There will be a book launch in London in early November featuring live bands and performances, with a wider launch taking place at Leeds Thought Bubble later that month. Additionally, an exhibition of original artwork from the book will begin in December.

Each copy ordered online will receive the book in a specially designed envelope in keeping with the Maps theme.

A large folder designed by John Miers will house the book and additional elements - including a series of postcards that have been specially printed to encourage the reader to travel with their comics. Glow in the dark printing and seeded papers will be used along with state-of-the-art screenprinting techniques.

A wraparound book cover by Stephen Collins will be protected by a large A2 poster/dustjacket designed by Katie Green.

Featured artists: Takayo Akiyama / Kristyna Baczynski / Dan Berry / Joe Blann / Stephen Collins / Paul Harrison Davis / Joe Decie / John Cei Douglas / Oliver East / Nick Edwards / Marc Ellerby / Paul Francis, Katie Green / Isabel Greenberg / Howard Hardiman / Ste Hitchen / Tom Humberstone / Joe List / Lizz Lunney / John Miers / Kathryn Newman / Luke Pearson / Philippa Rice / Jenny Robins / Edward Ross / Alison Sampson / Anna Saunders / Matthew Sheret

What We Need

Due to the more ambitious nature of the fourth volume of Solipsistic Pop, we need help meeting the printing cost of the book and securing the collateral to establish a larger distribution model to the previous three volumes.

The funding target is just over 5,000 which would go a long way to meeting the printing costs and allow for a more sustainable business model for future editions of the book.

What You Get

Depending on your ability to contribute and invest in Solipsistic Pop, there are several exciting incentives available - from signed, exclusive postcards and badges to pre-ordered copies of Solipsistic Pop 4, free tickets to launch events, digital downloads, original artwork, limited edition prints, a credit in the book and even extremely rare printing plates.

Every little helps and whatever you can spare to help support us will be greatly appreciated. Everyone who donates will receive regular updates about Solipsistic Pop 4's progress before anyone else and will be invited to future Solipsistic Pop events throughout 2012.

UPDATE: Now SP4 is at the printers, the later IndieGoGo perk incentive of having a credit in the book cannot be honoured. Additional original artwork and early print proofs will be shipped instead.
