My Story
In November 2010 I came from Denmark to NYC and began filming. In search of something new, I had longed dreamed of being able to show people how much love and passion there is all around us. I had no doubt I was in the right city to reveal this somehow, but lacked the right story.
I lived with a musician at the time who brought me into the world of the underground artists of New York City. Slowly but surely a world I had never seen before unfolded before me and these stories sprung out before my camera.
Penny is a 27-year-old actor and writer who hosts and produces an Open Mic in the heart of NYC. It was there she met Tony Kaye (American History X, detachment) A world famous film director who happened to perform his music regularly at her show. The acclaimed film director saw something in Penny and her play, A Comedy About Suicide. They are now working together to adapt it into a film. After years of struggling and performing underground, Penny is now looking at something that might change her life forever.
I got to know Tony, who is a very passionate and honest man. I came in under his outer shell and found a very shy and kind man who also just wants to speak to the world through his art. Even with all his successes he is still experimenting and not afraid to take chances, fighting his own battle moving into new waters by trying to establish himself as a musician as well as making films.
Surrounding this I followed dozens of other talented artists who are experiencing their own quests for success and fulfillment. Among them is the young and very talented singer-songwriter Chris Wolf, who is chasing his own opportunity in the music industry.
The passion and dedication I found in my first six months of filming needs to be finished. This film is very important not just to me but for the artists playing in the dark.
I need your help
I spent everything I had to film in NYC for those six months and now I need your help to finish this film.
Anything at all youre able to give will help and every dollar WILL make a difference. Somewhere In The Dark reveals the underground artists who have no funding and most can barely make rent. Yet they are working harder and longer with very little return.
Please help me tell their story.
This is the art that really needs funding and will be made no matter what but you can help get it to the quality these stories deserve.
The money will cover equipment, transportation, housing, sound, lighting, etc. As $18,000 isn't enough to complete a project of this size, if I can get the film to where I need it to be Tony Kaye has offered to help when it comes to post-production. He has seen an idea in the concept and has challenged me finish the story! Tony Kaye has promised me that if I can raise the money he wanna let me document something people have never seen before.
But I need your help to get it there
