When Hannah Alazhar met fellow Producer Shandé Niemann during their time at the prestigious Arts Institute of Bournemouth, they were inspired by their determination and passion for the same movie projects to set up Smoking Guns Productions, an independent production company, as a vehicle for the movies they intend to write, produce and direct in tandem.
Once they had gained their degrees, they began building their contact network, gaining production experiences on features and TV, and writing screenplays for spec. Smoking Guns Productions is dedicated to creating innovative, highly commercial films for the mass market. Smoking Guns Productions believe that stories well told reach the widest audience, generate the highest return and they endeavor to inject energy, passion, and sharp-shooting business savvy into their projects. With their own limited pot of personal funds, they have managed to attract the attention of Warner Bros, Capitol Films, and Fox to the project on the sheer strength of the writing.
Alazhar and Niemann are two highly motivated, business savvy women with balls of steel, in a highly male dominated industry. They intend Smoking Guns Productions to become an iconic brand, dedicated to breaking the stereotypes of women in the industry by producing highly commercial film and television fare dedicated to a mainstream audience.
Their future goal is to establish branches in London and Los Angeles, effectively bridging the divide between the UK and USA film markets, and later, providing a network of support for upcoming female filmmakers. Their business sense, determination and ability to go toe to toe with some of the giants of this industry has lead to their success in gaining one of the most prestigious Agents in London, Julian Friedmann, and getting work through to the heavyweights of the film and music industry.
With ‘City of Paradise’, it is their intention to create a dynamic, exciting, and progressive story that can connect with people from all walks of life. But the mantra of Smoking Guns remains the same across their varied slate of future projects – to connect with the audience at the deepest, base level, and create stories that will resonate for years to come.
