OUR STORY

In 2010 over 200 totally wonderful people supported the making of Sound It Out here on Indiegogo. Director Jeanie Finlay and I (Sally Hodgson)were totally overwhelmed at everyone's generosity and support. We put an amazing team together of film professionals and finished our micro-budget feature in January 2011.

Now we've found out the film's has made it through over 5000 films to have its World Premiere at SXSW in Austin this March... we're totally blown away!

We hope to head out to SXSW with TOM (the owner of SOUND IT OUT RECORDS) and the lovely Stockton lass Becky Jones aka SAINT SAVIOUR (featured in the film) to support our beloved film as it makes its first steps in the festival world and ...

We need your help to get us there

This has been a rollercoaster ride that has proven our faith in independent film-making and shown us the vital place of independent shops at the heart of the community. With your help we can see it through and take our film to the world.

Why support SOUND IT OUT? "Because small shops give us hope" - Ange Taggart Backer #126

THE IMPACT

This will be our first ever SXSW - in fact Sally and Tom's first ever trip to America!

* We want to take a small slice of The North East and represent it on the streets of Austin, Texas. Independent record shops are an endangered species and we want to tell Austin about SOUND IT OUT, Teesside and it's thriving community.

* We're going to keep vinyl alive in Austin We will be organising live events in Austin and taking the SOUND IT OUT portable vinyl jukebox, playing the 29 killer tracks from our soundtrack, on vinyl of course.

* We want to continue the independent spirit that got the film made in the distribution and exhibition.

* We want to meet other film folks so that we can keep on making films we feel passionate about for years to come.

* It's going to be an eventful journey so we plan to record our experiences and stories and share them with you. Everyone who's already supported the film is a part of the Sound It Out family and now we need that family to grow to help us support the film as it takes on America!

WHAT WE NEED AND WHAT YOU GET

To get out to Austin and to have a place to rest our heads we're looking at roughly 1,500/$2,400 in flights and 1,800/$3,000 for a place to stay. We need to make an HDCAM NTSC master tapes and DVDS. We also want to create some publicity materials and to take with us and the Sound It Out portable vinyl jukebox.

In return for any support you can offer we'll send you a signed copy of the beautifully illustrated poster (by the very talented Amy Blackwell), some of our SXSW publicity swag, a regular video update about how we and the film are getting on in Austin and two tickets to a private screening of Sound It Out in London in April.Thank you so much and wish us luck!

Jeanie, Sally, Tom, Becky and the whole Sound It Out Team. x

SOUND IT OUT - DOCUMENTARY 75 MINUTES 2011

Over the last five years an independent record shop has closed in the UK every three days.

SOUND IT OUT is a documentary portrait of the very last surviving vinyl record shop in Teesside, North East England. A cultural haven in one of the most deprived areas in the UK, SOUND IT OUT documents a place that is thriving against the odds and the local community that keeps it alive. Directed by Jeanie Finlay who grew up three miles from the shop.

A distinctive, funny and intimate film about men, the North and the irreplaceable role music plays in our lives. High Fidelity with a Northern Accent.
