4th Sista-2-Sista Youth Summit

Creating New Possibilities

Our Mission

The mission of the Gye Nyame (pronounced jean-yuh-me) Empowerment Project (GNEP) is dedicated to the education and advancement of people of Pan-African descent, and the development of the neighborhoods and communities they reside in through conferences, workshops and other social and educational mediums. Our vision is to provide a supportive network and forum that empowers the individual, the family and the community to meet their full potential.

We believe that if you empower an individual, you inspire the family. If you inspire the family, you uplift communities. If you uplift communities, you alter the worlds view on humanity.

Our Story

On March 31, 2012, GNEP looks forward to its 5th annual "Sista-2-Sista Youth Summit," a one-day summit that empowers 125 young high school women of color from New York City to tap into their full potential by letting go of their stories of the past and embracing NOW.  The summit will engage the participants in panel discussions, workshops, live entertainment, and reflective activities.

This year's theme is Unraveling Stories, Creating New Possibilities.  GNEP believes that everyone has a story about their past; however it is the interpretation of these stories that often stops people from tapping into their full potential or giving 100% of themselves in any given situation.  We will aid the young women in overcoming some barriers of the past, and in creating new and empowering stories about their present and their future.

The Impact

Through mentorship programs and annual youth summits, GNEP utilizes a three step process of self awareness, self appreciation and self actualization that empowers youth to make well informed decisions about NOW and their futures.

Upon completion of the Summit, the participants will be provided with access to resources in the areas of personal and professional development; will be affirmed that they can be whatever they choose to be; will continue to foster an appreciation for sisterhood; will develop skills to think critically and engage in healthy debate while unraveling the stories from the past that hinder them from reaching their full potential; and they will be inspired to take action in the areas of their life that matter most.
