About Me

I've worked in the television and film industries for 30 years now and I'm still enjoying learning new things - all the old stuff isn't worth remembering.

Let's see - I started in live theatre - as a mime, clown, juggler and acrobat.  That was fun - but not very lucrative - and hard on the knees.

Then I got a job with Jim Henson's Muppets on a show called "Fraggle Rock - I was inside Junior Gorg and did some other characters too.  I worked with the Muppets on and off for about 12 years and appeared in productions such as "Labyrinth", "Dinosaurs", "The Jim Henson Hour" and others.  I also operated animatronics on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II" and "Short Circuit II".

With Cheryl Wagner, I developed and produced "The Big Comfy Couch" - which was a lot of fun because I was also a writer and a director and I got to puppeteer one of the Dustbunnies.  We got a Gemini award for that one.  Still hard on the knees.

I ran the Sheep Shop, a puppet design and building workshop, for 10 years that did everything from commercials and kids shows and special effects jobs.  During that time I co-created and produced over 70 hours of original programming for television, including "Ruffus The Dog" - for which I received a Writer's Guild award.  There were a bunch of other shows and awards and even a stint at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as the Executive Producer of Kid's CBC - but the best part of any gig was always the team of people I'd manage to surround myself with.

Our production designer also happens to be my wife, Emmy award-winning Karen Valleau, who is a remarkable talent and an amazing human being.  She puts up with me - that makes her amazing.

When I'm not begging for cash on the internet I'm baking bread, rubbing my knees and enjoying life in Toronto.
