I'm an American independent filmmaker based in Berlin, Germany since 1990. Got a fancy diploma (B.A. in English literature) from Columbia University in the City of New York before succumbing to the European bug and relocating to Berlin. After an astonishing career as a dishwasher in a Greek restaurant, I climbed the ropes to becoming an English teacher and translator before landing one of those coveted spots in the directing program at the Hochschule fr Film & Fernsehen "Konrad Wolf" (the former East German state film school) in nearby Potsdam-Babelsberg. Got lucky with my graduate thesis film "Heaven on Earth", which played at IDFA and sold to numerous public TV stations around Europe. That set me on the way to an adventurous career as a documentary filmmaker.
Since then, I've made two more feature documentaries: HOMEMADE HILLBILLY JAM (about modern-day hillbilly musicians in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri) and FORGETTING DAD (about my father's mysterious case of amnesia).
I'm a very curious person always on the lookout for interesting stories that need to be told. Not a believer in so-called 'objective' documentaries, I'm not shy about using whatever means necessary to tell a story in the most honest and compelling way.
If you'd like to meet or would like to share a story with me, feel free to drop me a line.
