Reimagining Detroit

The media images of burned out buildings and decay that have represented Detroit around the world is just the story thats on the surface - and a story that is twenty years-old to those who live here.

The book Reimagining Detroit synthesizes several ideas for urban revitalization in shrinking post-industrial cities.  Using it as inspiration, a team of young designer will design t-shirts, posters and other related merchandise that will represent not only pride in the place we call home, but love for the urban center and all the potential for Detroit and other industrial cities around the world.

The book is currently "in-development" at One of Us Films, which means we're busy grant-writing and asking foundations for money.  We wanted to do this smaller design project to infuse the development process with energy that helps engage the community in the work, right from the beginning.  Also, when you're writing grants all the time, it's nice to have a creative break.

The Impact

This project is our chance to tell the world that Detroit is a lot more than just the train station!  In addition to seeing what a group of young designers have to offer, you can can show your support for the future of urban revitalization everywhere.

What We Need & What You Get

Your contributions will pay for the production of the work, one for the designer and one for the launch event.  We want you to wear or display the work in your support of the Reimagining of shrinking cities.  The designers will be presenting several concepts for merchandise, based on the themes of the book - so pick what is closest to your heart and wear it with pride!

The designers are working on this as a collaborative design project, to show-off their work and ideas.  They are not getting paid, they are all looking for work!  So take a look at this new, young talent, and contact them if you think they may be a fit for your business or organization.
