I've been hiding away in a farmhouse for nearly a year, (aside from a bit of touring) writing new and very different songs for the new album, 'Kodiak'. This album has been such an adventure and a challenge to write and I'm so eager to share it all with you.

I'm excited to be going back to Vancouver to record with musician/producer Ryan Guldemond (Mother Mother) beginning in December. We'll be starting off at Mushroom/Hipposonic studios for the first days, and will complete the entire record within a radius of about 12 blocks - right in my old neighborhood. The finished product will be 12 tracks, and will generally feature a band setup. 

The Album

After the release and tours of my third album in 2010, I felt the need to step into a more structured, more meaningful concept to work with in my art. It turns out what I was looking for was already surrounding me, but would take me on a journey far from the mindset I had been living in. In the world as I see it today, there are huge advancements in intellect, communication and technology. All the while, it is clear to us that the rate of growth in preserving our natural environment will not support our quality of life for much longer. It became evident to me that in order to have a sustainable future, this gap between nature and our technology-tethered society would need to be bridged. I began with myself, by writing a concept album from the perspective of animals. I sincerely hope this process can continue and circulate in the minds of my listeners by reminding them of their connection with nature.
