Your First iOS App
My name is Ash Furrow and I've been developing iOS apps since 2009. I've co-authored a book on Objective-C development and have recently completed an eBook on UICollectionView. I also write a great blog on iOS development.
I've always had a passion for teaching and, in the past few years, I've been fortunate enough to be able to bring that passion to writing. Unfortunately, I've found working with publishing hampers my passion. This is why I've turned to self-publishing and I need your help.
What I Need & What You Get
I'm asking for money to cover my expenses for a 4-month long process of writing sample code and tutorials, and to complete editing. I have experience estimating the time it will take to get me there, and while this is an optimistic goal for the length of book I want to write (200 pages), I'm confident I can reach it.
In exchange for $9, you'll get a free copy of the book once I've finished publishing it. I'll also list you as a sponsor in the sample code. For $18, not only will you get the book and a special thank-you, but you'll also receive access to a private GitHub repository to see updates to the sample code and markdown chapters as I write them. You can even submit pull requests to help improve the book!
If I don't reach my goal, I'm going to write as much as I can anyway. I want to cover everything from a very simple app to a well-designed one using complex libraries like Core Data. If I don't reach my goal, I won't be able to write those chapters.
I'm a huge fan of contributing back to the Objective-C community and release a lot of code on my GitHub page. I want to take that to the next level.
This is going to be an amazing project. A book that teaches you everything you need to know to write your first iOS app for only $9 and with sample code freely available on GitHub? To my knowledge, it's never been done before. I believe it can work and I'm genuinely thrilled about the difference it's going to make to so many developers out there struggling to get started with iOS development.
Other Ways You Can Help
I'd love help spreaing the word – this can be a great resource for the Objective-C community but getting the word out there is crucial. Thanks!
