Short Summary
Clean cities. Healthy lifestyles. Doing our part to slow climate change. For these reasons and with your help, The University YMCA and our LINC friends (ENG 315) will launch a bike share program.
Funding
Funding will go towards purchasing quality bikes, safety equiptment (including helmets, locks, relectors, etc., and maintenance tools for the Y. The Community Foundation of East Central Illinois has made an incredible commitment to fund nearly $2,000 in equipment, it's up to YOU to help raise the remainder and make this a reality!
The Impact
Ever need to get somewhere fast? Most peole would hop in their car, or borrow a friend's car. With Y bikes, you could hop on a bike and save the Carbon emissions. This ultimately makes our streets safer, people healthier, and atmosphere cleaner. This is a pilot program that we hope to expand to a much larger, multi-location bike share in collaboration with other organizations and units in our community.
The Y: A Place for Change
In the late 1960’s, the University YMCA joined a growing number of pioneers in environmental sustainability. In over forty years, the Y has become a hub for environmental initiatives on campus and in our communities. Five student programs (Students for Environmental Concerns, Red Bison, Campus Vegetarian Society, Engineers Without Borders, and the Green Observer) collectively have had a tremendous impact. Their mission is “protecting the integrity of our natural world.”
