WorldAlpha is a massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game or MMORTS. In this persistent world, players will be working together to decide what society they are going to form, as no one player will be able to do it all. Some will be businessmen, others military and political leaders. They will work together, and use social strategy to ultimately decide the fate of WorldAlpha. WorldAlpha is in the late stages of development, the first closed beta scheduled for November 22 to 25.
Earth has failed, a smoking ruin. WorldAlpha, the only inhabitable planet within reach, is an experiment in survival. Humanity must outlive its own failure. The escape from the ruin of Home was merely another breath, a choking gasp. In order to breathe freely once more, Home must be restructured, reinvented, relocated.
WorldAlpha is a free-to-play browser based game, which will always be open to anyone to play. All players will be able to progress and will not be limited. The design is mobile friendly, so the game can be played on any mobile browser. There will be virtual currency, in the game called EarthBucks, which can be earned, won, or purchased. With EarthBucks citizens can purchase items to help themselves, their companies, their neighborhoods, cities, and countries.
In the economy players will have to gather 9 different resources such as clay, cotton, iron ore and oil, and use them to produce industrial materials like bricks, plastic and steel. These industrial materials in turn will then be used to create buildings, cars, tanks, weapons, and other end-user products.
Citizens will form companies, purchase real estate, construct buildings and employ other citizens. There will be over 200 different products which will be sold in the marketplace, and the revenue generated will further business, political or military interests.
Countries, as well as cities, will have the opportunity to form armies to protect their lands. Crews will be formed to command tanks and artillery. The Map based system will have battles that could rage on for hours. Each battle round will give the soldier an opportunity to fight in a minigame in their tank or artillery or as a sniper. Officers, crew commanders and High Command will have the chance to direct those soldiers underneath them to try to win the war on WorldAlpha.
Cities will be divided into neighborhoods which will have elected city councilors, who along with the elected mayor will make tough decisions on how to run their city. Taxes will be levied and collected, and with that money the leadership will have to protect their city and provide their citizens with academies, hospitals, city walls and more.
Nations will be a collection of like-minded cities. These countries will also hold elections to select a Head of Government, as well as officials from each city, to run the nation. A constitution will be written and voted upon. Which of the eight types of government will it be? Will it be Democracy, Aristocracy or Plutocracy? Who will hold leadership, and for how long? When will the elections be? Will there even be elections? WorldAlpha will have many options.
The media module will let citizens open a newspaper, TV station or polling booth. It will allow players to give their own views and commentary about what is happening in the game. Is the war justified? How to get rich quick? Why you should vote for the Plutocratic party?
Unlike many gaming-related IndieGoGo campaigns that raise money to finance or finish a game, WorldAlpha is in late development, and will be completed without any additional financing. What our IndieGoGo campaign is about is getting more players to WorldAlpha to make it a richer experience for all players. We have a modest ad budget, but we would like to expand our marketing budget to attract a larger audience. So, the $12,000 is going to be used to advertise through the following avenues and others.

- Facebook Advertising
The amount to each will depend on how initial advertising responds on each. Those that prove to be better avenues will get a bigger budget.
We do have stretch goals in mind such that when we see our target being met, we’ll roll them out. These goals include a translation module and the opportunity to have WorldAlpha translated into many languages.
WorldAlpha is being developed by indie developer Big Impact Studios. We are a team of 3 full-time staff and a lot of part-time help as well as a Flash Game Studio, Golden Gear Games. Our office is located in Milton, Ontario, Canada, just outside of Toronto. While most of us are in the Toronto area, some of the additional help is coming for those in the US, UK and Brazil.
WorldAlpha producer and game designer, Michael Koehler, was owner and developer of a huge community website of over a million members, and 8 million pageviews/month before it was acquired by a US public company. During that time he also created several online games and one PC trivia game, which were very successful.
WorldAlpha Lead Artist Serge Chumak has done work on several games including a browser based MMORTS.
WorldAlpha Lead Developer Chris Crocetti has worked on web applications for the better part of a decade.
One of our biggest rewards for all supporters is the opportunity to get beta keys for all of our closed beta dates, and bronze supporters and above will have access to our alpha (if the date hasn’t passed already). This is significant as closed beta keys will be limited, and so by supporting us you will be able to secure one.
