About the Play
From Italy to Mexico to New York to Scotland!
WORKING ON A SPECIAL DAY tells the story of the life-changing encounter between an over-burdened housewife and her mysterious bachelor neighbor on May 8, 1938 - the day Rome celebrates Hitler's visit to Mussolini's Italy. Employing a singular performance style, Mexico City actors Ana Graham & Antonio Vega use only simple props (chalk, blackboard paint) to create a bittersweet human drama that unfolds within the charged political landscape of rising fascism.
It is based on the 1977 Oscar nominated Ettore Scola film, Una Giornata Particolare, that starred Sophia Loren and Marcelo Mastraionni. Ana and Antonio's WORKING ON A SPECIAL DAY is created in a fresh theatrical form that brings the story and timeless themes to new audiences.
This play is especially dear to us because it explores in such an open-hearted way how people work through their differences and fears. It's a performance that celebrates the essence of theatre - that simple, intimate interaction between the artists and you, the audience.
We think the audience at the Fringe Festival this August will love this production, and hopefully give new life to this work and maybe a chance to tour the globe!
What We Need
Audiences and critics have been thrilled with this production and we were blown away when the call came from Edinburgh. We so want to produce this show at the ultimate theatre festival!
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to produce WORKING ON A SPECIAL DAY at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Airfare and lodging are already covered but we still need
- $2,000 for building the set, including walls;
- $500 for props and other set materials; and
- $1,500 for marketing. It's very busy at Fringe and we need to make sure people come to see our show!
In exchange for your dollars, we will be able to gift you props from the set, original artwork from Antonio, or send some good thoughts your way for helping us reach our goal.
Whatever amount we raise, we will make sure Ana and Antonio are able to participate in this amazing experience. We want you to make this happen!
Greater diversity in theatre breeds better theatre - we wholeheartedly believe that. By sending Ana and Antonio to Edinburgh Fringe Festival we hope to bring greeater diversity to theatre around the world.
