The Project and Us

This project sheds the light on the participation of women in the Egyptian revolution and documents their experiences as part of the historical memory. It is also a tool for women empowerment everywhere and a source for researchers, students and everyone interested in the matter.

The participation of women in the Egyptian revolution didn’t come as a surprise to us, nor do we view it as an extraordinary phenomenon. Women are part of every society and form a part of the social, political and economical spectrum. It is history that tends in most cases to ostracize the participation of women and keep them in the shadow while highlighting the participation of men and attributing leading roles exclusively to them. This is why we are documenting Herstory.

What´s Money Got to Do with IT!

We have already started producing episodes and you can watch all what we did here. All the work we have done is under a non-commercial Creative Commons license and has been made available for everyone to view and use.

We have filmed over 25 interviews and we still need to film few more. Also the money will be used to continue editing and producing what we have filmed in addition to the material that we will further collect. This is where you can step in :)

 

The Words of Women from the Egyptian Revolution or Herstory Egypt as we like to call it, is a very important project not only for today but for the future to come. We are creating a time-capsule, storing the stories and a chunk of the lives of women for History to remember, or to not-forget.

The videos and the material we are collecting and producing can be an important tool for the advancement of women rights and the empowerment of women everywhere. We have seen the impact of our first videos and the amount of attention they got from a wide range of countries in different continents.

There are many ways you can help and support our project

 

1- Spread our videos, spread the Words of Women.

2- Spread our call for donations, send it via email to your contacts, share it on Facebook or Tweet about it. A tweet a day can be of great help to us.

3- You can help us by organizing a screening in your house, school, university or at your local social center, a bar or a restaurant. You can get in contact with us and we can provide you with a downloadable link. At the end of the event you can ask people to contribute or you can simply collect donations at the door. We have a special perk for such support :) We like to motivate people to self-organize and to come together.
