Short Summary

My name is Kevin Otterness. I’m a filmmaker in Chicago, and I am deeply disturbed by the growing acts of senseless violence taking place here and across our nation. Even more disturbing is that many of these acts are committed by young people whose victims (whether intended or innocent bystanders) aren’t any older than they are. When I see stories on the news of young lives taken before they’ve even had a chance to be lived, I feel helpless. I think, “What could I possibly do to help these kids?” And then, I realize… I can use my skills.

I’m making a short film that will bring to life the hold violence can have on kids who are surrounded by it every day. The film is called “With One Eye Open,” and it tells the fictional story of a young boy caught in the vicious circle of urban violence. Through his eyes we see and feel the desperation that drives him to emulate behaviors learned on the streets and that will eventually control the course of his life.

But the only way I can make this short film is with your help.

I’ve set a goal to raise $25,000, all of which will go toward the production and post-production of “With One Eye Open.” That includes, but is not limited to:
