My name is Jeremy "Phoenix" Williams, and I am a student of film at a local college here in the Dallas, TX area known as Northlake College. Sure, it's not a large film school or university such as USC or more locally UNT, but I don't come from very rich stock nor was I ever much of an A+ scholor, so I had to find the education I could afford. It has served me well, though. I've met many people I can trust here and I continue to work with as many of them as I can. Also on board of this project is Three Quarters Film, a company based out of Waxahachie, TX that produces short films, music videos, wedding videos, commercials, you name it. You can check us out at www.threequartersfilm.com.
We have recently created a short film called "Spared", a comedy, that is going to a few festivals and has even won 1st place in the audience choice at the August 2012 "Show Your Shorts" at the historic Texas Theater in Oak Cliff, TX. It can be viewed online here:
Years ago, I had an idea for a feature film. It would have action, wit and dark tones, where witches were less magicians, and more normal people both blessed and cursed with unnatural power. In this story, I created rules that these witch's powers had to follow. Using the power felt good, it was a high, but using it had a price. The power is addicting, and the more these witches used, the more they corrupted themselves until ultimately there's nothing human of them left. Also among those rules was the concept of a "white witch", a witch who's power instead comes from temselves, rather than an outside source, they can only use as much as they give, so the power doesn't corrupt them as it does normal witches.
That was just the world, however. I had always been about characters and how the characters interact with each other and the world. I wanted to create very real characters. Characters that sometimes don't get along, each of them with their own quirks and backstories.
But that was an idea for a feature film. I am still a student of film at a local college here in the Dallas area known as Northlake College, and I am still learning. I suppose I will never stop learning, but I wanted to test the waters first. I wanted to dip my toes into the world of Witchbane, as well as try my hand at professional filmmaking.
"Witchbane: Hunters" is a prequel to the planned feature film "Witchbane" that I plan to direct within the next couple years. It features the majority of the same characters from the feature and details the small group of witch hunters known as the NHA and how they formed together as a group. My official plot description is this:
"Marcus' life has hit a dead end. But his life drastically changes when he gets on the wrong side of a loan shark who has unexplainable powers. However, help arrives in the form of Alex, Kate, and Nox, a ragtag group of modern day witch hunters who need Marcus' help against the forces that conspire against them."
We are very proud to announce that the opening theme song for “Witchbane: Hunters” will be “Engage” by STRIA, an amazing band from Orlando, Florida! They too are trying to raise money through indiegogo to support their new EP release as well keeping their tour going. Give these awesome guys a like and support their indiegogo as well! It’s a nice even number if you throw $25 their way and $25 our way to help support two epic campaigns! You can get a sneak peek of “Engage” in their campaign video!
Alex: The stoic yet sometimes eccetric leader of the NHA. He is a human and has a strong sense of justice. He is quick to action, but often jumps into things that are more than he can handle. He rarely changes expression, almost as if he is keeping a constant focus on something deep inside his head.
Marcus: A street smart guy who has gotten himself in trouble with a local loan shark over gambling debts. He has an odd ability to control the natural powers inside gemstones, tranferring his own energies inside of each one to use when he wants. Unknown to him, he is a white witch, and that puts him on the radar of not just the NHA, but also the ones who would use his powers for their own gain.
Kate: Alex's right hand woman. She is a white witch he keeps constantly in his sight. She often shadows Alex and acts as his second eyes. Her powers allow her get inside the minds of others, but ecause of her white witch status, she in only able to be in their minds if they are in her's as well. Kate and Alex share a bond far deeper than any humans can share, but even so, they are still constantly at odds with each other, as Alex's recklessness clashes with Kate's patience and awarness.
Nox: The NHA's overly arrogant coordinator and hacker. He stays at the base, watching the NHA member's movements and keeps himself constantly in their ears. Anything that isn't closed circuit is his playground, and he does things with computer hacking that is generally considered illegal. He views himself as being the smartest person alive, contrary to any evidence, and while he accepts Alex's leadership and respects him immensly, he never misses a chance to brow beat him about the group's decisions.
Gene: A local loan shark who enforces his rules with his mysterious powers and his three bodyguards who also have unexplainable gifts.
We are constantly adding new cast members to our film, and these are some of the great talent that have agreed to be in "Witchbane: Hunters":
Our first cast announcement is a very talented theater and voice over actor. R Bruce Elliott has agreed to join that cast as the ruthless loan shark with a witch's power, Gene. R Bruce Elliott is a veteran theater actor who has played many roles, such as Beethoven in "33 Variations". He is also a talented voice over artist who has had many roles in the english dub versions of Japanese animation, such as "Samurai 7". We are very humbled to have Mr. Elliott join our cast!
Eric Weiss will be our leading man as the stoic leader of the NHA, Alex! Eric has been a knight at Medieval Times and has starred in many short films around the area. He is also an accomplished stunt man and he will also be serving as out choreographer on this project. We are very proud to have Eric on our team for this movie!
Andrew Bonds will be our street-wise Marcus! Andrew recently starred in our previous short, "Spared", that has won two awards, and is also an official selection at the Downtown Tyler Film Festival! We hare very happy to have Andrew on board for this film as well!
Katie Hanna will be playing the role of our empath, Kate! Katie has starred in several short films over the years, such as "Fuzzy Bubbles", though I don't think she's ever played a character with the same name as her. Katie is a very welcome addition to our cast!
Ian Graeme Senkle will be playing the role of our egotistical hacker, Nox! Ian is still very green when it comes to acting, but he has worked with our director several times and will be a perfect fit for the role of Nox!
Scot Michael Walker will be playing the eccentric detective Barrett! Scot has been in many short films around the area and is an accomplished filmmaker himself. He starred and directed in his short film, "Delphis", recently, and he has won the gold prize at the Hollywood Screenplay Contest for his work on "Rockin Reverend"! We are very happy to have Scot on board this project!
Also added to the cast in Michael Brown as Tank, Gene's bodyguard. Michael Brown has recently starred as Recondo in the GI Joe fan film "GI Joe: Initiate", and has recently finished filming a role on "Hangover 3"! We have worked with Michael Brown in the past and he is by far one of the most badass people on this planet.
Xai Yang will be playing the role of Ace, Gene's reluctant bodyguard who has the power of teleportation. Xai has been in some very high quality short films in the past and has had roles on "Prison Break" and "Friday Night Lights"! We look forward to working with Xai on this project!
Terry Johnson will be playing the role of Vain, another of Gene's bodyguards and an expert fighter. Terry is a model who has worked on shoots for several big names and has proven to us he can do the fighting stunts that will make Vain's scenes as amazing as possible.
The reason we are trying to raise money for this is because we actually want to be able to pay the talented people who are helping us make this movie. Many up and coming filmmakers usually just get actors and crew that do the work just for their resumes. We want to do more for them than that, even if it's just a little bit, because no movie can be made without a talented cast and crew. We have access to equipment to shoot our film with, but there are many other areas of production that we want to be able to pay people for.
- Location fees
- Music licensing
- Make-up Artist
- Costume Designer
- Stunt Choreographer
- Special Effects Artist
- and so much more
With your help, we can get talented established actors on this film, and we will keep everyone updated on this page, as well as our facebook page.
We will constantly be updating and we even have big news to announce soon.
If you have more questions or would like to see an excerpt from the script, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will be more than happy to answer any questions!
Please share this page, and like us on facebook. Even if you cannot contribute any funds, helping us get the word out is invaluable.
Thank you, and we cannot thank you enough!
For the first people to donate $25, not only will be include a DVD or Bluray copy of the finished film, but also include either a DVD or Bluray copy of "Spared", a short film created this past summer by Jeremy "Phoenix" Williams and 3QF! It can be viewed online here!
