Thank you for helping us reach our goal!!! As of March 27, we have 13 days left until our deadline and just surpased our $3000 goal! So, the natural question becomes, do I still need any donations? YES! :) The budget for the film is about $10,000 and unfortunately, I have yet to find an investor. So although now I have enough (with putting in a ton of my own cash) to at least make it through prodution, I still don't have what I need for post. So if the world out there can continue helping out and get me to $4000 or even $5000, it really will make a huge difference to what happens to this project after I finish shooting. Still, the $3000 is a huge accomplishment. A very very sincere thanks to all the donors!
So for those of you who are new here, my name's William Carne, I'm the writer, director and producer for White Knight, and I'd like to welcome you to the page. White Knight is a 12 minute short film shooting in mid-April. I've always loved comics but at the same time, felt something's been missing from the comic book movies that have done the rounds over the last 15 years. All the best comics (like all the best of any genre), weren't just about action or superpowers; they had something important to say. Something that mattered. It's a goal of mine to bring that accountability back to the superhero genre.
White Knight Synopsis
Being a superhero, is not what you’d expect. White Knight is a costumed activist, a Real Life Superhero, who instead of fighting crime helps the homeless and the rest of the city’s less fortunate in any way he can. But White Knight has to put his dreams of heroism on the line when he encounters the city’s real criminal element. White Knight is a tale of social activism that follows a normal man, doing an extraordinary thing; he provides hope and friendship for the homeless and the destitute, and in so doing proves that heroism can come from the most unlikely sources.
Why we Need you & the Difference you can Make
The film's total budget is $10,000 and although that may sound like a lot of money, equipment and permits are awfully expensive. Even at $10,000, the cast and crew will be working for free. We are attempting to secure some private funding as you read this, but guarantees are scarce in this economic climate and the money we can raise through crowd funding will give the production a safety net that can not only encourage private investors but also ensure there's enough cash to cover the bare bones of production. In other words, with your help, the film gets made no matter what.
Where does the money go?
The money will be spent on the following:
- Insurance and City Filming Permits (these two items themselves add to more than $1000).
- Light Rentals (a larger than normal expense because the film takes place outdoors at night – that means lights, cable, generators, stands and more).
- Camera Rentals (this includes dollies, lenses and more to ensure the film looks professional).
- Sound Rentals (No matter how good the lights and camera make a film look, it still has to sound professional too!).
- Catering (Because even though people may work for free, they won't work hungry).
- Post Production (this includes editing, sound editing and so on)
- Festival Submission Fees (White Knight will be submitted to major festivals such as Cannes, Toronto and Sundance).
- DVDs and Deliverables (Even the best film in the world is no good if people can't watch it!).
So what do you get?
Take a look at all the great perks on the right! Yours could be anything from a thank-you email, to a DVD, tickets to the premier, a walk-on role, special thank-you's in the credits, access to special behind the scenes footage or even an Executive Producer IMDb credit!
You're Broke but you Still Want to Help
It's true that money isn't everything. This film employs an extensive guerilla marketing campaign. The more people that become familiar with it, the better chance it has to go win that Oscar! So get involved! Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and get involved with YouTube, or dress up as White Knight when you go to Comic-Con later this year! Any publicity you can give us is so meaningful and we are far more grateful for it than you may realize.
Thanks for getting involved and we hope to see you at Sundance next year! :)
