What Roads?

The whole world is now talking about global climate, emissions while trying to find a way to find a more environmentally friendly way of transportation. The re-construction can only happen once and this is the point in history where we’re about to make that change.

We want to tell the story about the future of roads.  They are fundamental to our lives.  They have been a part of our societies since the beginning of time.  In our current age they have dominated the news and our lives.  Through the commute to work to how we live our lives when faced with the prospect of climate change.  They define our potential and our weaknesses – the car has become a status symbol of the modern world.   Yet the humble road that they travel on is undergoing massive changes.  How we live our lives are affecting roads.  Politicians are planning out how our roads and cities will look.   The roads that will be the veins and arteries of the metropolises of the future.  But are those assumptions they make correct? Are they making the right decisions?

How?

We are going to examine that future. Working with Salmonick Productions we want to show the world what the future may look like and how it will affect us.  Animation will allow us to show to the viewer how the concepts would look like in practice and allows us to examine the real situations.

Salmonick are brilliant animators from the Netherlands, who will help us to illustrate and demonstrate our future.   The concepts we will explore while they may sound familiar - will with animation be bought to life.

We’ve researched this subject and now we want to bring our research to the screen.

With interviews from scientists, engineers, politicians and academics we will examine the issues that will affect travel by road and the roads themselves.   We aim to show how the future’s uncertainty is leading us in many potential directions.  With critical analysis we want to show how the world may end up looking.

Throughout human history roads have evolved alongside us.  From the advent of the wheel to Roman roads, the horse and buggy and the internal combustion engine the challenges facing keeping humanity moving have evolved as our technology and societies have.

Why?

This is not the most obvious subject for a documentary it’s true.   But it’s a fascinating one.  With car ownership on the rise globally and travel and it’s “problems” dominating more and more of our lives it has become even more apparent that what the future holds will define us.

What We Need & What You Get

We've been chasing one professor for a while. He's based in Harvard and comes to Europe from time to time, but never to London and never on time. We've been speaking to him since the beginning of the documentary, when we came across his very exiting idea about a emission-free city. To get this interview, we need to cross the sea. 

We also need to attend conferences and discussions on this side of the planet, which we so-far have had a limited access to due to lack of funds. We want to be in the centre of the discussion and follow the decisions as they are being made.

Our animators also need to start building vehicles, cities and roads. They need to start putting theory into practice and create the future world we'll live in.

If we don't reach the entire goal but get some support, we'll start with the interview in Harvard, pay our animators and start looking for transitional means of funding until we can carry on. Having you guys on board would help us so much for that, as that would help us show that we have support.
