When the World was Flat

Loss is its own place where character struggles to sustain you. A story of the landscape of loss and the worlds inside us.

When the World was Flat is the first feature film from actor / writer/ director - Jonathan Lawrence. It was shot in Winnipeg Manitoba during the summer and early fall of 2012

Synposis

Travis, Elliott, Jake and Troy have been friends since they were children. They coexist in a spectrum of idealism and realism and with a mix of absent and negligent parental figures, the boys thrive on one another's loyalty and boldness. Realist Travis, and dreamer Elliott, become the focus of the story. Polarized by one another in an attempt to broaden their world from what is right in front of them. Their relationship is boundless and intimate; allowing sensitivity to fuel the fight for one another. But after an unexpected accident threatens that loyalty, they are left submerged in a web of loss that extends beyond their own, and into the lives of those around them.

Our story so far

Post production has officially commenced! Filming is complete and we're now on track to start the ever tedious (but enjoyable) editing process. We are looking to finish the project by early 2013, provided we're able to meet our goal. That's where you guys come in.

The $5,000 will go towards post production costs, paying off equipment rentals, as well as film festival entrance fees. Post production costs will include sound mixing, editing and the purchasing of any music.

The film was shot on a very limited budget, and though we stretched every penny, all of that money has gone to paying for gas, locations, props and of course - food. We have not paid any of the actors, however, depending on how things go with this campaign, we would love to be able to compensate them for all the time and talent they have given to the project.

We shot the film using a canon 5D Mark II and Canon 7D. Luckily our director of photography - Jordan Popowich, had his own equipment and is also going to be editing the film as well. We have reserved some of the funds to pay him seeing as how he has contributed such a large portion of his time and for the use of his equipment.

This money would be extremely beneficial to us and will help in moving our project forward. If we can't reach our goal, well... Let's pretend that won't happen.

What do you get?

Well that's a good question. We've set aside a few incentives but really we would like to know what you would want from us. Bartering is what helped build our great nation of Canada (sort of) and so let us know what we can offer you in exchange for scratching our proverbial backs. We're extremely grateful for any and all donations but just send us a message if you have any questions or requests with regards to our film, or the people behind it.

Although we are asking for money...

We feel extremely lucky to have been able to capture what we have on such limited funds. The support of all our friends and family over the past few months has been amazing and has allowed us to fully realize what a fantastic community of artists we have here in Winnipeg.  This project was truly a labour of love and we could not have come this far had it not been for the passion and commitment of everyone involved.
