Weasyl: A Community For Artists of All Sorts

Introducing Weasyl, A Brand New Social Networking Site for Artists of all subjects & medias, and those that appreciate them.

What the Front Page Will Look Like

Our Story

Weasyl was originally created upon the realization that the internet lacks a truly comprehensive website for artists of all kinds to congregate and share their works, while also being fairly managed. Although there are specific sites that are for visual art, some for music, and some for videos, we thought it was about time that we bring all types of artists and art appreciators together under one, universal roof.

Weasyl has been a work in progress for the last 8 months now, and the site is scheduled to launch after nearly a year of work, at the end of the Summer. Our team of nearly a dozen and a half has put a lot of effort into making this site a reality, and we figured, what better place to make that happen than IndieGoGo?

Our Policies

Since this is a social networking site, there will of course be rules. However, not just rules for you the user, but special rules our staff members must follow also. This is one of the things we believe makes us unique, as we've put democratic systems in place to deal with problematic staff. To read about our policies, follow these links:

The Perks, Explained

Paid Accounts: In order to help earn revenues and keep the site going, Weasyl will be offering Paid Accounts which offer extra features that enhance the site experience, without substantially detracting from the user experience of free users. However, for the purpose of this drive, we'll be offering free Paid time, based on what you donate. To see the list of Paid features, go to this page, and scroll down to the "What features do you get with a Paid account" section.

Commissions: Weasyl is a community made by artists, for artists, and given that, we're offering art commissions as perks for donating. For anyone who donates more than 50 dollars, you'll be able to choose one person from our pool of artists to draw you something. The more you donate, the more detailed the piece. To see a full list of our artists working with us, and their terms, see this page. Our artists reserve the right to not accept any more requests, should they be overwhelmed with too much demand.

Merchandise: Another way we intend to sustain ourselves once the site launches is through merchandise. However, for 200 dollar contributions and up, we'll be giving our T-Shirts with the Weasyl logo on them, as depicted in the image up top. We'll also consider other mediums to brand our logo and mascot onto, such as mugs, buttons, and messenger bags.

Where the Money Goes

Weasyl will be hosted using Amazon ec2 and s3, which means that we won't be purchasing our own server equipment. As such, we'll be able to drastically save money, and have extra left over for any unforseen problems, or other expenses like advertising and purchasing vBulletin software.

Other Ways You Can Help

We greatly encourage everyone who sees this page to spread the word across Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Youtube, or any other social networking platform they use, to make sure this reaches as many people as possible! We're incredibly dedicated to making this site work, and we hope that others realize this, and aid us in making this dream possible.
