"Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand."
CROWDFUNDING THE ELECTORAL PROCESSWe want to give you a voice. We want to give your friends a voice. And your relatives. And even the random guy you saw this morning picking his nose at the gas station.
Democracy just works better that way. You get more people involved, you start seeing better and better results.
So we're launching a web-platform and reality-show where we search out a viable 3rd party presidential candidate in time for the start of the 2016 election... And we need you help. Not just in funding our campaign though, but also in selecting a candidate and voting them our winner. Let's use technology to promote transparency, education, and basic democratic choice in our political system.
HOW IT GOES DOWN...So here's the rundown, fellow patriots: We the People will be an online platform where individuals can log on and nominate local people (think, local leaders, academics, and just generally awesome folk) to run as a candidate. Local elections will occur, further narrowing down the field of candidates until we have only a handful representing this wonderful nation of ours. Our project will finish up at the start of the 2016 Presidential campaigning season, in order to allow whoever you select through our platform as a winner to pursue an actual campaign against all the big-dogs from the two-party system!
We plan to take We the People on the road and have multiple crews in various places throughout America covering the election process. The web platform will start off localized as will the elections, and people will be able to look up potential candidates and nominate their own for their area. These areas will grow larger and larger as the candidate field narrows. Nominating, campaigning, voting, and general information will all be available through the platform, free to access both on computers and mobile devices.
From there, we'll be providing awesome coverage of the candidates that you've elected as they debate one another, hold public lectures on varying topics, and show you why they're an awesome alternative to this two-party system!
Be a part of the process. Show Washington what your voice sounds like.
A TRUE CHALLENGE WITH BIG GOALS
By September of the 2012 election, the Democratic Party raised $1072.6m and the Republican Party, $992.5m.
These numbers are incredible! And while we hope to raise above and beyond our funding goal, we will clearly be running on a tight budget in comparison to the established parties. Luckily, we are not launching a presidential campaign, either. We are launching a platform that will be able to empower those who wish to later take on a campaign. But this is still a huge undertaking and we hope that what we lack in funding, we can more than make up for in creativity, ingenuity, and just general out of the box thinking.
Utilizing a small team of programmers and media-creators, we hope to operate as efficiently and effectively as possible. Most importantly, we need your help in getting out the word about the project. We also plan on working closely with universities and academic institutions whenever possible during the project, and motivate college students and young people in general to be active in the election process.
Another issue that has immediately presented itself to us has to do with investors and outside financing. The big reason we came here to Indiegogo to raise our funds is that we believe this is the best way to steer clear of interest groups and individuals who might in some way want to control this electoral process for personal gain. Hence, we want to conduct our funding very transparently, and with Indiegogo, this is quite easy. We have given an intense amount of thought to the rewards you see on this page today, to insure that they will not ultimately constitute us auctioning off political sway in exchange for funding. Previously we considered, for instance, allowing contributors early access to the web platform when it's released. However this would equal a huge advantage in terms of running a political campaign, and we have chosen to go with other rewards that don't have such a steep moral price instead.
Extensive legal consultation will be conducted in order to adhere at all times to current election law and avoid arduous legal battles.
And so with a successful Indiegogo, a steadily increasing public following, and some serious creativity and ingenuity, we intend to shape how we look at electing our leaders. Hopefully we'll get more people involved in the election process than ever before, and set a new precedent for maintaining an informed and active voting population in the great 'ole US of A.
What if you had more than one choice when you went to the polls?
What if election campaigns were conducted in a way that was actually relevant and captivating to watch?
And what if you no longer had to be subject to two opposing parties who act pretty much the same and are typically only interested in increasing their power?Let's do this. Let's change the way we look at our public officials for the better.
