Summary
For 30 years the National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee has been connecting groups and individuals who refuse to pay taxes for war and promote peace. In the U.S. at least 50% of income tax dollars help to pay for war. We are a network of groups and individuals active in the peace and social justice movements who cannot in good conscience pay for war — or let it happen without protest. In the tradition of Thoreau, A.J. Muste, and Dorothy Day we are compelled to resist having our taxes pay for warmaking.
Annually National War Tax Resistance promotes tax day protests at post offices, IRS offices, federal buildings, military installations, and town squares. Most years everyone does their own thing.
In this era of “endless war,” we need to speak louder and make our protests more visible and more connected from coast-to-coast.
What We Need & What You Get
We plan to make lots of these banners to donate to local activists around the country who will use them on and before April 15, 2013, as to protest war and the use of our tax money for war. Printed on vinyl the banners will be ready-for-action for a long time after April 15—until we end war.For $1,600 we will make at least:
20 vertical banners in a small size easy for 1 person to carry
10 larger horizontal banners for 2 or more people
10 larger horizontal banners for 2 or more people
The Impact
Groups from Oregon to New Hampshire, and Kentucky and Indiana to New York have already asked for banners. We have a network of activists around the country who are guaranteed to be out on Tax Day and will use the banners, get local publicity, and send us photos and videos for posting on the internet to widen the impact.Other Ways You Can Help
