ABOUT VIA TANIA
I’m a Sydney-based (by way of Chicago) songwriter and recording artist whose work has always been energized by the talent of other artists involved in my projects. My albums up to date have always been more like collaborations than that of a solo artist. (See www.viatania.com/discography)
Currently I’m in the process of completing a follow-up to my 2009 album Moon Sweet Moon. It’s a collection of 10 songs featuring myself and the lush sound of Chicago’s Tomorrow Music Orchestra (TMO).
Back in 2011 we spent a HUGE day in a Chicago studio recording four songs, got a lot done and had a fantastic outcome. Since that day I have moved to Sydney, Australia and Matthew Golombisky (TMO's founder) has moved to Argentina.
But it’s time to finish the recording back in Chicago. I’m excited by the possibility of the crowdfunding platform: I love that it’s 100% community driven, involving those who enjoy making something real happen for an artist and watching it unfold. It’s the opposite of what I’ve experienced during my career in the music "industry", never knowing who really gave a hoot.
Here are some words from Matthew, TMO's founder:
"I'm really looking forward to working with such a talented singer/songwriter in a way that allows me to fully explore my orchestral background, mixing 'song' with chamber orchestra. The possibilities of my group Tomorrow Music Orchestra allow for so many aural colors and soundscapes; it's exhilarating and unique."
And from Charles Rumback, my co-producer:
"This record was something that had started to make itself in a way. We knew we would be recording some time down the road when we were touring, and as the music changed, the evolution of the music took a new shape. I left the first sessions so inspired. Time passed, and Tania moved back to Australia, and it was a project that I was beginning to think would never see the light of day. I'm so happy that it's finally going to be finished."
HOW YOU CAN HELP?
With the proper funding, we can finish the recording, then complete the final mixes and mastering. Recording will include sessions in October with the TMO in Chicago, and my own vocal recordings a couple weeks later. If you can help us make this happen it would be a marvelous act of big hearted, orchestra loving, generous philanthropy-flavoured support that would inspire us to give it the best we've got.
SO WHY SHOULD I DONATE? I’M BROKE!
I get it, I am, too! But if you can’t donate, perhaps you could help spread the word about the project? Someone you know who isn’t broke might just want to help out and then it would be like you donated it yourself . . . right?
P.S. A percentage of the proceeds after the goal is reached will be donated to the MUGSU.org.au, a Bangledesh textile factory collapse charity.
I asked Zakee Shariff to design a poster for Via Tania and we are going to hand screenprint these babies! It's our $35 and above perk ... and well worth a design by this artist. Zakee is a London based Artist who has designed her own clothing collections as well as shoes, album artwork and more recently collaborated with a fair trade label called People Tree.
I love a bit of original typography myself so there will be words appearing on your poster!
The $50 perk includes a copy of Moon Sweet Moon, the most recent Via Tania recording, you can receive a real hard copy with artwork sent in the ye olde mail.
The $500 perk has wearable scupltures donated by Chicago based artist Anna Kunz.
Anna's makes works on paper, paintings, sculptures, installations and is one of the most inspiring working artists I have come across. In Anna's words:
If you have a preference please let us know!
