How many times have you wanted to go to a Farmer’s market only to miss the short window of time they are actually open? Even worse, what if the one good farmer’s market in town is 30 miles away and only open for 3 hours a week? Truckin’ Tomato aims to solve both of those problems by taking the farmer’s market directly to the customers. We will sell locally grown produce, food products, and merchandise on a trailer transformed into a mobile market that is parked on the campuses of businesses, large parks, apartment complexes and special events in San Antonio and the surrounding area. Our aim is to bring the highest quality farmer’s market selections to the places people already congregate. Additionally, the profits generated will help provide meals and supportive services for families experiencing food insecurity in San Antonio. To make this dream a reality we need help raising money to outfit the trailer!
What We Need & What You Get
We have purchased the 28 ft. cargo trailer. Via in San Antonio has donated us a propane powered tow truck to pull it. Now we need to raise $40,000 to turn it into a mobile farmers market! The funds raised will allow us to outfit the trailer with the following details:
- Install refrigerated display case for pershiable foods
- Install 3 sink compartment and juice bar
- Shelving needed to display produce
- air conditioning unit
- refrigerator for prepared meals, meat and dairy for sale
- lighting on inside and outside of trailer
- wrap the trailer with custom Truckin Tomato graphics
- shade awning
- Generator to power the mobile market
- and more!
We have created five great perks for different donor levels. The perks include Truckin' Tomato merchandise such as resuable bags and t-shirts, coupons to shop at the mobile market, donor recognition on the trailer and more. Please browse the perks on the right!
Truckin' Tomato isn't just an innovative concept to make locally grown produce more accessible in San Antonio. Its also a social enterprise, driving revenue to a great non-profit, The Christian Hope Resource Center (CHRC). In fact, CHRC provides food and other social services to 2,500 households every month! The majority of the profits from Truckin' Tomato go directly to CHRC. We like to say that when you shop at Truckin' Tomato you will eat well and do good at the same time. Because of the partnership with this great non-profit, Fortune 500 companies in San Antonio have already committed to allowing Truckin' Tomato to come to their campuses when its ready to launch. We are confident that we can drive meaninful revenue to CHRC if we can secure the funds needed for this last piece of our startup expenses.
Additionally, Truckin' Tomato will also create job training opportunities for residents of Haven for Hope. From the farm to the point of sale, we will create meaningful job training opportunities for people seeking to gain new job skills that will help them to overcome homelessness. We are creating partnerships with local grocers to hire the job training participans once their training is complete. We like to say that we will be doing good all through the supply chain!
