There's something in the house
There's something in the house is a 2D animated short film project. We follow 2 kids left alone at home, but they discover something else is in the house...
It's a suspense movie based on how those 2 kids are gonna react to fear and danger until they discover what is happening.
The art direction and the whole look of the film is based on the kids movies of the 80's like E.T. or The Goonies, and on the 80's horror films like Poltergeist. I want the character designs, the backgrounds and the colors to be very simple and graphic in order to give more attention to the animation.
As an animator, I want to make a nice traditional animated film with full 2D animation. I'm used to work on other directors project and to animate the way they want (wich is usually pretty realistic), but this time I'll take a great pleasure to make subtle actings mixed with more cartoony and fun actions.
Usually I animate on paper with pencils and then I film my drawings to see the line-test, but, even if I love to work on paper, it will be easier for me on this project to animate on Cintiq using a proper animation software. Moreover, I'm doing this project at home and not in a studio, so the easier way will be the better.
Who I am
My name is Xavier Ramonède, I'm a french 2D animator living in Paris (that's why my english is so bad!). I studied animation at Gobelins, the french animation school, between 2002 and 2005, and on my last year I co-directed a short film called Le Building. Time to time I come back there to teach animation. I worked on several 2D feature films like Nocturna (by Adrian Garcia and Victor Maldonado), The Illusionist (by Sylvain Chomet) or Zarafa (by Rémi Bezançon and Jean-Christophe Lie). I'm also an animator on TV commercials, a character designer and illustrator.
I had the chance to work and learn my job with incredible animators from Disney, Dreamworks or Pixar, so this film will finally be a chance to apply everything I've learned through the years.
Why do I need your help ?
Full 2D animation takes a lot of time. For example, for only one second of film, I can make between 12 or 24 drawings, and if there's 2 characters on screen it's twice more! I think I gonna need 6 months just for the animation. Moreover, because I want to have a total control on film, I'll try to do almost everything by myself: animation, clean-up, backgrounds, colors, compositing... So for this project I don't need funding to buy tools, hardware or anything because what I really need is TIME ! And time costs money...
I've already done all the pre-production, so I need approximately 9 more months to complete the all movie. I'll work on my savings for the biggest part but I'll need you for the last months or I'll never be able to finish the film.
Furthermore, the only thing I won't be able to do myself is the music and the sound, so I'll need funding to pay someone to do it (around 800$).
I tried to make interesting and fun rewards, even if you can't give a lot. Credits on the film, exclusive acces to the production blog to follow how the film goes on, DVDs, posters, original drawings, a printed animation, a skype call and, for the most generous bakers, an animation class of your choice (I teach animation at Gobelins) and, for only one of you, your head and your name on a poster in the film. Even if you can't help a lot, the smallest amount is already a huge help.
Don't hesitate to tell me if you have any suggestions.
I really hope you like my project and, if you are interested and you want to be involved, help me to fund it and talk about it around you!
And if everything is not clear, don't hesitate to ask me any question you want, I'll be glad to answer :). Thanks you guys !
