My name is Paige Beltowski, and I am a third year fine arts major studying Fibers at the Kansas City Art Institute. Growing up in Iowa my two big dreams were always to live in a big city and work in the production arts. After moving to Kansas City and practicing with fashion and costume design, I decided it was time to go even bigger. Applying to several fashion institutions, I was shocked to have been accepted to Central Saint Martins. CSM is one of the highest ranking fashion institutions in the world, located in the heart of London. While London is a dream location for me, it is unfortunately a very expensive place to live. With your help and contribution I will be able to take advantage of the this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study fashion in London for 6 months from January through June of 2014.
Covering the costs of living including rent, food, school supplies, and transportation will come to around 7,500 dollars. I have secured a housing situation outside of the school dorms, due to the cost of on-campus living being more expensive. In addition to applying to scholarships and travel grants, I am also applying to internships with fashion designers in the London area in hope that I might find a workplace geared toward my area of study. As a thank you for contributing to the effort I have produced uniquely printed and hand craft wearables and accessories with individual fabric designs. These objects such as bow ties, scarves, t-shirts, and hairs bows are designed and crafted by me. With a higher donation comes a more individualized gift.
Attending this school will provide me with the opportunity to follow in the foot steps of many giants in the fashion industry such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Zac Posen, all of whom are alumni of CSM. I will be working directly with representatives from such sponsors as Christian Dior, L’Oreal Professionel, Louis Vuitton, The Italian Trade Commission, Paul Smith, and the Victroia and Albert Museum. During my stay I will be able to attend London Fashion Week, allowing me to view the industry's leading trends first hand. Through my education at the Kansas City Art Institute, along with participation in local fashion shows, and working as a costume designer, I feel that I have been prepared to take the challenge that has been presented to me. The only obstacle right now is financing this challenge.
Even the smallest donation helps, and if you can not make a contribution, please spread the word. Using the Indiegogo Share Tools is a fast and easy way to share the effort with your family friends and co workers.
