Who We Are
TheatreFactory Studio was formed in Rome, Italy, moved to Berlin, Germany, and is now active in Los Angeles, CA. We are a small Poetic Theatre Company whose mission is to promote and inspire Creative Theatre in the surrounding community and to awaken it to the changing social, cultural, and political attitudes of the world we live in. These attitudes can often seem to prevent the development of an intellectual, independent and competent creative work.We must awaken the creativity that lies hidden within us all to truly reflect and respond to the world we live in.
The Madwoman of Chaillot is a piece written by Jean Giraudoux in 1943 during WWII. During this tumultuous wartime, the author expresses skepticism at the possibility of changing society in any other way than to return to earlier values.
Set in Paris, The Madwoman of Chaillot tells the story of an older woman named Countess Aurelia (The Madwoman) who discovers a few businessmen are planning to destroy Paris and seize the oil lying under its grounds. The Madwoman with a group of friends, in their magical and playfully innocent way challenge the businessmen and take back what rightfully belongs to the people of Paris.
This play is a modern fairy tale that warns us of the horrors of greed, but also reminds us that we all possess the power to fight for the values we believe in.
Giraudoux uses words as ‘musical architecture’ to tell the story of a society polluted by people who worship money. These soulless businessmen - or “ICKS” as we refer to them - are people who believe in destroying everything related to culture, art, and the human experience. They destroy in the name of money and power and they only think in square feet and dollar signs. Does this remind you of any people you have met in your own life? Have we, as a society, fallen victim to the power of money and bought into its false promise of happiness?
What Do We Need?
We need your help to produce The Madwoman of Chaillot and bring this extraordinary play and it’s message to the city of Los Angeles.
We need at least $8,000 to get our show on it’s feet.
Here is a list of expenses we need funding for:
Royalty Fees; Designer Artist, and Staff Fees; Actors Salaries (16 actors in the show); Materials for Set Construction; Materials for Prop Construction; Materials to make Costumes; Lighting Equipment Rental; Sound Equipment Rental; Rent for the Casting, Rehearsal, and Performance Space; Advertising and Promotional Printing Materials (Flyers, Postcards)
We appreciate any and all financial donations. Every dollar counts!
What Do You Get?
Our utmost gratitude to start! Also, since we are fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, all contribution to this campaign are TAX DEDUCTIBLE . So not only do you get to walk away feeling like you have helped us in our goal, but your wallet doesn’t have to hurt as well. It’s a win-win!
We also have a selection of fantastic perks offered in exchange for each donation. We want our perks to represent how thankful we are to those who support us and the show. We couldn’t do any of this without you!
The Impact Of Your Donation
The theater is the only place where different imaginations can connect. Where the audience and performers share together a unique ritual experience. We want to provide our audience with a safe space not only to experience the magic of theatre, but, most importantly, to contribute to the artistic conversation.
While we do not have immediate answers to the issues posed in the play, we believe that by posing the question openly, we will insight the audience to find the answer within themselves and within their community.
In our opinion, The Los Angeles Downtown community is especially appropriate for staging this play. In every corner of this city, there are many “lost lives”- or maybe truly free lives because, owning nothing, they have nothing to lose. One needs only to raise the eyes upwards at the mythical sparkle of mirrors reflecting the sky, enveloped in light and glare, the true stars of our times, that pick our fates from far above, Gods dancing in a sort of infernal Olympus.
