Help us end the spread of HIV and AIDS with a contribution of just $5. Sponsor a feather. Help us build the Wings of Daedalus.
THE DAEDALUS PROJECT
Every August, for more than two decades, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival company and audience, the Rogue Valley Community, and people worldwide have come together for The Daedalus Project. This community of life-savers gathers annually for a weekend of celebration, song, dance, theatre and more, to raise money to end the spread of HIV/AIDS and to support those who are living with the condition.
The Daedalus Project is an opportunity to remember and honor those we lost and, in the face of such tragedy, celebrate life. One hundred percent of all profits raised over the past 25 years, a grand total of $1.3 million, has been awarded to HIV/AIDS related charities both locally, and throughout the global community.
THE WINGS OF DAEDALUS
The time has come to revisit the story of Icarus and Daedalus and tell a different story . . . one that does not end with tragedy. This year we will build THE WINGS OF DAEDALUS, with thousands and thousands of origami feathers.
Annette Julien and Paul James Martin, artisans in the OSF prop shop, are designing a 14'x6' structure.
Todd Barton, OSF Composer Emeritus, has designed origami feathers that will be affixed to this structure.
The wings will be revealed to audience members of the Daedalus Variety Show on August 19th, as the culmination of the Daedalus weekend. Community groups both near and far will be folding our feathers: from Maasai tribes in Kenya to church delegations in Southern Oregon, from intercultural groups in South Korea to summer camp students in Ashland.
They’re folding the feathers, but we need you to help us build the wings.
SPONSOR A FEATHER
A contribution of just FIVE DOLLARS funds one feather. Folded into your feather can be a name, a memory, a message, a prayer. If you wish, send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with your feather's desired content: a list of names; a poem; a reflection.
The wings that Daedalus built for his son melted when Icarus flew too close to the sun. Together we will build a stronger set of wings connected by more than just wax... the love, support and contribution from people like you will create the bond that will make these wings soar. And so feather by feather, name by name, prayer by prayer, we’ll build the wings. On August 19th, when the wings are revealed, you will be standing with us on the Elizabethan Stage as a member of this community of life-savers. Your feather. Your message. Your love.
WHERE YOUR CONTRIBUTION GOES
100% of all profits raised from this campaign (and from all the Daedalus Weekend fundraising events) go directly toward HIV and AIDS treatment and education organizations in the Rogue Valley, across the country, and around the world. Past recipients include:
With your contribution of $5, $10, $20 or more we will be able to build bigger, better, stronger wings to lift all of us up as we strive towards a cure. Let’s build the Wings of Daedalus together. Now, more than ever, we’re on the verge of flight.
