What do you do when your heart says one thing, but God commands another?
Come make a movie with me!
I’m Wendy Granger, a grad student in film at the University of New Orleans (UNO). I’m really excited to be shooting my thesis film later this year, and I hope you’ll help my producers and me bring my story to life.
In my two years at UNO, I’ve worked on more than a dozen films, doing everything from getting the coffee up to running the whole show. The Veil will be the culmination of my graduate work at UNO, and will be submitted to film festivals across the nation. It’s a story about trusting your gut, even when your entire world tells you you’re wrong.
About The Veil
Elise Galveston has never really experienced life outside the Church of the Children of Christ, the close-knit community founded by the charismatic Pastor Addison, who keeps his flock under strict control. Though she recently received a tennis scholarship to attend college, she's still unlikely to get away from the congregation, as she has been chosen to marry the middle-aged Addison. She believes in the pastor, and trusts in him...but she doesn't love him.
The film takes place over a single day: the day of the wedding itself. Elise, taught by the Pastor to believe that she is an imperfect vessel and that her own feelings are suspect, searches for a sign from God so she can know for sure what path she should take: the security of marriage inside the church or an uncertain but independent future in the world outside. In a dramatic and dark climax, she finally finds her sign and her life is forever altered. Inspired by a true story.
What do we need?
Our current budget for "The Veil" is set at $10,000. That includes the cost of equipment rentals, locations, and all the fixings for a full-blown wedding scene. We've already raised some of that amount, and we need your help to make up the difference.
Like most film students shooting on a shoestring, we know how to do a lot with a little. Our producers are hard at work finding ways to do more with less, but we’ve still got bills to pay.
Your contribution helps us afford those things we can’t get for free, like location fees and food for our hungry volunteer crew. Your dollar means pretty locations! Cool camera moves! Crisp sound! Sumptuous costumes! Happy actors! More helping hands on set! These will all help us craft a more compelling story and get into more festivals. Even the littlest contribution will bring us closer to our goal!
Please consider becoming our partner in bringing this story to the screen.
