The story focuses on Ariel, a 19 years old professional swimmer, brought to the pool by her father, swimming coach, at the age of four, who spends her summer days preparing for the upcoming Olympics. In the swimming pool, she meets Grete, a 10 years old imaginative and curious girl who has just started swimming lessons. Despite the age difference, two become friends, as Ariel helps Grete to overcome her fear of jumping into the water. Grete introduces Ariel to her brother Jonas, a 19 years old beginning writer, who feels immediately attracted to Ariel. However, Ariel has a leg ache that is getting more and more painful...
Who We Are
Director - Gabrielė Urbonaitė
Gabrielė had been studying in "Skalvija" Film Academy in Vilnius, Lithuania, for 3 years. In February 2012, she participated in Berlinale Talent Campus #10 during Berlin International Film Festival, where she met Saulius Lukoševičius, the cinematographer, and Nicolas Houver, the editor of "The Swimmer". From fall 2012, Gabrielė will be studying film production at Emerson College, Boston, MA.
"It has been my dream for a long time to make a film about swimming in Lithuania, a country of basketball. Swimming is not only my favorite sport but also philosophy of living. Time has come to make my dream come true as I found people who believe in my ideas".
Producer - Justinas Piliponis
Justinas is an independent Lithuanian producer, founder of the production company "Pilou Films", currently doing his master degree in film management in Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy.
"My goal is to support young up-coming filmmakers who are talented enough to make Lithuania's name known in the world. I believe that in this way we will grow all together".
Director of Photography - Saulius Lukoševičius
Saulius earned his BA in cinematography in Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy, currently works as cameraman in film and television.
CastEglė Valadkevičiūtė as Ariel - a professional 19 years old swimmer, Lithuania's Olympic hope whose leg pain threatens her dream to win gold.
What We Need & What You Get
The whole crew and cast, including famous Lithuanian actors for supportive roles, agreed to work for free. We are also getting a RED Epic camera. However, we need to raise money for the following:
- technical equipment: camera, lenses, sound, lighting and grip equipment
- rent of the swimming pool, main location
- transportation and travel costs of the editor from France
- post-production: editing room, sound design, color correction etc.
