Hello friends of Sheffield Doc/Fest! 

Has Sheffield Doc/Fest connected you to people who have supported your films? Or introduced you to people you went on to work with? Or helped you make a break into the industry or a step up in your career? We love connecting people and want to keep doing it into the future. In this climate of funding cuts, we need your support to keep making a difference in documentary. 

What have we done for you lately?

Every year we work hard to try to connect you to the right people - we love connecting filmmakers with audiences with distributors, with sales agents and with commissioners as well as future co-producers and crew members for future films. We hope you've come to Sheffield Doc/Fest and left with some awesome connections!!

 - Maybe they led to a commission, pre-sale, an acquisition, or a distribution deal

 - Maybe you had a great Q and A with an audience at your screening

 - Maybe you found a new production partner for a new film

 - Maybe you came as a newcomer and met the mentors who got your career started

 -  Maybe you had a conversation that changed your life.... Maybe you even met your life partner at Sheffield Doc/Fest!

 - Or maybe you just came and had a great time and left feeling re-charged and re-energised, remembering why you work in the wonderful (but hard-slog) world of documentary!

We really hope that the mix of sessions, films, marketplace and social events at Sheffield gives you a week to remember every year, and we are dedicated to putting together a programme  that gets you talking about all things documentary and leaves you buzzing with new inspirations, connections and ideas.  

We know that everyone in the documentary industry works so hard and we try to provide an inspiring space with an exciting atmosphere that gives our delegates the recharge they need to keep going for another year in the industry they love, but that can be tough sometimes! 

We want to continue to provide an amazing space for everyone to get together and do all these things every year in Sheffield. We want to be your super-connector.

So how do we fund this super-connecting work of ours?

To make all the connections happen between buyers/filmmakers/producers/crew and more, we fundraise like crazy all year round! It is not dissimilar to fundraising for a documentary; we work hard to raise enough money (from many different sources) to deliver a world class festival for you...and we know its worth all that fundraising when we see you all in Sheffield having inspired conversations about documentaries, doing deals, meeting friends and letting your hair down - we know it is worth it when the festival truly comes alive in June. 

Now we're asking you to help us on the road to our massive annual fundraising target. There have been a lot of funding cuts in the UK in the last few years which has made our life pretty tough. We're committed to delivering high levels of excellence as well as maintaining our editorial independence and programming the films we want to, no matter who they upset or provoke. But that's not always easy when the cuts bite.

So we need your help...

We are asking all the people who have ever got something out of Sheffield Doc/Fest to please give a little to help us through a rough patch. If you feel we created some great connections for you in festivals gone by, then please give just a little to our SuperConnector Fund crowdfunding campaign.

All donations are greatly appreciated. No donation is too small. All donors are named and thanked in the campaign and on our website (unless you request to remain anonymous) There are also lots of great rewards to choose from if you give to the campaign!

Where will your money go?

Your contribution will help us continue to connect talented documentary people the whole year round through our training, workshops and mentoring.

We will take your contribution as a sign of love, appreciation and acknowledgement of our work and we will give back that love, acknowledgement and appreciation to you in spades - we promise!
