We're Not As Filthy As That Video Implies
A situational comedy inspired by old screwball comedies of the 30s and 40s, "The Secretary" is a modern farce about two couples caught in the same room with their spouses and extramarital lovers. Sean comes home, expecting a romantic evening with his mistress, the lovely Eva. But as a result of his secretary's intervention, Sean's wife Bree comes home instead. Things really heat up when Eva arrives anyway, followed shortly by her husband Jim (who happens to be Bree's lover), all expecting a romantic evening alone with their respective flings.
Ready for a Twosome?
We are now shooting a short comedy sketch in conjunction with "The Secretary," called "The Morning After."
Morning After takes place in a world of vampires, elves, wizard guys and
zombies, with heroes Mike and Jill at the center. After successfully
defeating a seductive vampire, Mike becomes suspicious of Jill enjoying
the assignment a little too much, and we follow their awkward car ride
It's like two movies for the price of one!
And We Get Sexy Results
Where does the money go when you donate? Well, since we can't make movies with just computers and robots yet (though some sure have tried), we need to pay the talented people who have agreed to star in and work behind the scenes on these projects. From the actors to the assistant directors, camera people, sound mixer, make up artist, grips, lighting crew, script supervisor, and editor, everyone is providing top shelf talents at a low low price to us.
In addition to production costs, the money will be used to distribute this film to festivals around the world and make sure your contribution doesn't go unnoticed. You will literally be able to see your money up on the screen and on the web, including Netflix, which often plays short films on their Instant Watch feature.
But wait Jake and Elizabeth, how can you add an additional short movie to the current one for the same amount of money? Glad you asked hypothetical person! "The Morning After" is significantly shorter than "The Secretary," and won't require quite the same resources. Also, by working out deals with our crew, we can have them on board for the little bit of extra time it takes to shoot "The Morning After" while still keeping everyone happy, paid and fed.
We have a variety of perks for helping out with the film, from our eternal gratitude and special thanks in the credits, to behind the scenes photos, DVDs, and so much more. Check out the details to the right for more info!
So Spread 'Em
If you want to see some new old fashioned comedy, or zombies and vampires, but aren't able to donate (or already have you wonderful person you), please spread the word! Tell them about us on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and social media at large!
I've always gotten a kick out of those old comedies like "Arsenic and Old Lace" or "Some Like It Hot" with mistaken identities, silly mix ups, or people running in and out of rooms trying to sort out messes. I wanted to take that comedic sensibility and make a modern version of it with "The Secretary." I also wanted to take a lot of the sexiness that was only hinted at back in the day and bring it to the forefront, especially with the ladies, who are not shying away from anything. Curious about what happens when all those couples get together? Donate!
I wrote "The Morning After" after watching movies where the heroine has
to essentially make out with the villain (relatively speaking) to save
her life and the life of her true boyfriend (the example that inspired
it the most was "The Phantom of the Opera"). Usually, she does it out
of some kind of compassion for the bad guy before he is killed or she's
whisked away by the hero. I always wondered though, after they escape,
wouldn't the boyfriend be a little suspicious or concerned about how
into the villain she was? We never see what happens after they ride off
into the sunset, so I decided to answer my own question with the script
for "The Morning After." If you're curious too, donate to find out
