SCI-FI-London's Alien Abduction Film Needs You!
**Check out the updates pages for loads more information and photos**
THE SEARCH FOR SIMON...
...is a comedy science fiction feature film about a man named David and his lifelong search for alien life.
When David was 10 years old, his younger brother Simon disappeared from his life forever. His father told him that Simon 'now lives with the space people'.
A year later, David's father died and his mother refuses to talk about what really happened. David dedicates himself to the world of extra terrestrials, looking for the space people and the truth he knows must be out there.
David is now a man and he's still searching for Simon. Travelling the world, meeting anyone who has a story about abduction and UFO sightings. He even tries to get a job at B.A.S.T.A.R.D.D (British AeroSpace Technology and Research Development Division).
THE SEARCH FOR SIMON is British comedy at its best, with a golden cast to match the script: Tom Price (Torchwood), Carol Cleveland (Monty Python) and Simon Jones (Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy). And also a guest appearance by gaming legend Ian Livingstone, the man who brought us Games Workshop and unleashed Tomb Raider on the world!
ABOUT THE TEAM...
SCI-FI-LONDON, the UK’s leading genre event and an internationally recognised launch pad for genre movies, proudly announces the launch of this Indiegogo crowd-funding project for “Search For Simon”, an original comedy science fiction feature film about alien abduction. SCI-FI-LONDON will work in partnership with award winning film director Martin Gooch, of Gothic Manor Productions, aiming for a World Premier at the 12th SCI-FI-LONDON Film Festival on 3rd May 2013 at the British Film Institute, London.
THE SEARCH FOR SIMON's director & co-screenwriter, Martin Gooch says;
“Think Shaun of the Dead rubbing up against The X-Files, with a little Blair Witch Project, and UFOs thrown in for good measure. Our Indiegogo crowd funder will be essential to raise money to finalise shooting and post production of the Search for Simon. We've shot a load of material already, and anyone with a love of science fiction should back our Indiegogo project and help us find Simon!”
SCI-FI-LONDON’s festival director, and Search for Simon’s producer, Louis Savy, adds; “Having shown over 10,000 exciting and independent science fiction films at the festival I thought it was about time we made one before aliens actually abduct us! Martin sold-out the opening night of last year’s festival with his award-winning & thrilling gothic horror comedy film “Death”.
I’m therefore absolutely delighted to work with this award winning British Director to launch the Search for Simon Indiegogo crowd-funding project. Our Indiegogo target is £15,000, and we have some great perks on offer for funders, so make your pledges and help us find Simon!“
We need your support... and not just money!
The film is a documentary in part...or mockumentary.... maybe even a focumentary, a mix of film and fake documentary? And as this is a crowdfunding project we'd love your involvement:
- Have you been abducted?
- Seen a UFO?
- Do you believe in aliens?
- Think they have visited us?
Record a short video with your UFO story and send them to us! The best ones will feature in the film.
Email Martin@martingooch.com a link to your clip as soon as you have uploaded it to your favourire video host (vimeo, youtube etc)
WE ARE ABOUT 80% COMPLETED... but still a long way to go.
Over the past few months, the team have been busy shooting the film, and we have way over half the film in the (digital) can! So we are asking you to help us finish our search for Simon by making pledges for our great perks!
WHAT WE NEED MONEY FOR... our Sherman tank. No, really!
We have some extra special effects to complete and sound mix, grading and all the other stuff you do to finish a movie.
We also need to buy things like TANK FUEL and WW2 costumes for our opening scene... yes, we have a tank. A real working Sherman MK4 tank built in 1943! See the clip above for more!
WE'VE GOT SOME UNIQUE GIFTS... treasures aplenty.
We're covering a whole range of dreams here. We've got signed copies of books by gaming legends Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson. We've got all the usual collectables and eternal gratitude that's yours to keep.
OUR WORLD PREMIERE is booked for May 3rd 2013 at the British Film Institute, in the most prestigious screen in the UK, NFT1. You can be there too (and at the after-party!)
So we're in a bit of a rush. A very exciting rush. Make your pledge and help us find Simon!

What is Sci-fi London?
SCI-FI-LONDON is the UK’s leading genre event and an internationally recognised launch pad for genre movies. It is an independent film festival that gets no funding from any of the arts or film councils and relies on the generosity and support of its sponsors, and the filmmakers and distributors themselves. Ultimately it is the ticket-buying public that make it a success and one of the friendliest festivals around, a view that is expressed by not only by the punters but also by the visiting filmmakers and guests.
