Who we are
We are Betsy Sanders, Vaishnavi Sharma and Gina Leon, a team of artistic collaborators representing the United States, India and Canada. In the fall of 2005, we came from different corners of the world to the New School For Drama where we shared three years of rigorous training, forged our working relationship and discovered our everlasting love for each other!
Since then we have followed our own artistic paths and gained numerous credits between us that include Off-Broadway, regional theater, national tours, film, television and productions across the globe. Yet, through it all we kept alive our dream to create something together. And now, seven years later, we are thrilled to reunite in service of this incredible story. Our budget is small, our resources limited, but our passion is boundless and we need your help.
Her thirty-year career as a stage director has included work on Broadway, Off-Broadway and Regional Theaters such as The Pearl, The Ensemble Studio Theater, Circle Repertory Company, The Guthrie among many others. She has taught directing and acting at NYU Tisch, Princeton and Yale and is the Chair of the Directing Program at The New School for Drama.
To produce and mount a revival of Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Seagull’.
Our aim is to bring together a group of dynamic artists and collaborators, all working towards a common goal: to bring to life a timeless story in an environment that fosters a bold and provocative rendering of this play.
'The Seagull' is a play that speaks about the universal struggle to survive, a play that questions old and new forms of art, a play that presents an atmosphere in which the inner lives and the past histories of characters are revealed in the unraveling of their heart wrenching relationships. These are things human beings struggle with everyday.
As artists we have a responsibility, we must ingest the many mysteries of the world we live in and find captivating and truthful ways of telling stories about what it is to be alive. We must be entrepreneurs, we must collaborate, we must nurture a sense of community. Ultimately, we must work to create work.
We hope this will be the first of many future alumnae based productions. Sparked by collaboration and inspired by community, we hope to champion this cause for The New School for Drama.
