The Sea Is A Big Green Lens
David Henderson is a sculptor living in Brooklyn, NY, and Douglas Henderson is a sound artist living in Berlin. We are, in fact, brothers, and have collaborated on a variety of projects over the years. The most recent is the one for which we seek your help: we were offered a collaborative show opening December 13th at the very fine Studio 10 Gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and were asked to create a joint sound-and-sculpture installation to fill the entire space.
We decided on an ambitious plan, to create a vast lenticular void, involving some 40-odd sculptures, up to 7 foot tall, and a 14 channel sound system which is built into the sculptures. This void will then be filled with a multi-channel electroacoustic sound composition, based on a poem by Paul Celan. We are thinking of a message in a bottle at sea, but experienced from the message's perspective.
The financial side:
We now need to raise money for the equipment and materials. We’ve kept the funding perks very simple, and of course welcome contributions of any amount. We are going to make this thing regardless, so your money will be well employed even if we do not reach the funding goal. And if you aren’t able to help, do please come to experience the show! If you could pass this link on to anyone you think might be interested, that would be superb.
