The Musea Gathering

The purpose of the Musea Funding Campaign is to generate funds for additional development of the Musea Store and to launch the inaugural Musea Gathering.

Welcome to the Musea Funding Campaign!

The purpose of this Campaign is to generate funds for additional development of the Musea Store and to launch the inaugural Musea Gathering.

In order for the Gathering to take place we need to raise $115,000 by Aug. 22nd, 2012! If we fall short of that goal the Gathering won't take place!

(Note: If you’ve never participated in a crowdfunding campaign before here is how the money situation works:

IndieGoGo will hold the amount you spend, but if we don’t hit our funding goal, then you will be refunded in full and the Gathering will be canceled!)

If we go over our initial goal of $115,000 then all of the additional money will go to help us develop more cloud based software. With this campaign we hope to add a rating system, auto print-fulfillment, improve the bulk e-mailer and tweak a bunch of small items that will make the Store even better. if this campaign goes crazy, then we will look into building the 2nd Musea system, which will integrate seamlessly into the Musea Store! More than likely this 2nd system will be a cloud based storage system with some innovative features.

Why Musea Exists

Musea exists to create a better future through photography and technology. We will do this by challenging the status quo, celebrating the power of photography, creating software designed for where we are headed and by donating money to people and organizations that are making a positive impact!

Why We Chose Crowdfunding

We are choosing to use crowdfunding because we want Musea to stay debt free and borrowing from investors doesn't fit with our vision for the company. Our goal is to see Musea pushed forward because the photography community wants to see it succeed, not because we convinced an investor that we were going to make them a ton of money in 3-5 years. Power to the people, not greed!

What is the Musea Gathering?

The Musea Gathering is an education event for photographers that consists of a celebration, one full day of presentations and nine different workshops for you to choose from. The Gathering is designed to give photographers the knowledge and inspiration they need to improve their creativity and business without feeling like they need to purchase more gear, more software or follow a certain ‘system’!

No ‘rockstar’ photographers will be allowed to speak at this event! Think of this as the anti-WPPI.

The Gathering will not have a large trade show floor full of booths. We are considering handpicking up to five companies to partner with for the Gathering that share a common vision for the future of photography, but that’s it. Photographers need to create differentiation, first and foremost, because of their ideas, not because of the abundance of tools they use.

Here are the Gathering Event Details:

When: Feb. 4th, 2013 - Feb. 8th, 2013

Location: Nashville, TN

Schedule:

Monday, Feb. 4th, 2013, 7pm - 10pm - Musea Celebration

Tuesday, Feb. 5th, 2013, 9am - 6pm - Presentations (We are limiting this to 1000 seats)

Wednesday, Feb. 6th, 2013 - Starting at 9am - Beginning of the sponsored workshops. These will range from 1-3 days. Each workshop is limited to 15 seats.

Presentations and Workshops

I’m honestly floored by the generosity, humility and passion of the people that are going to be teaching. I knew from day one that in order for this event to be successful, I had to get a group of photographers on board that are known for their work and love for the craft, more than how cool they seem. So I began asking around, and I’m blown away by the level of talent that has decided to participate in the first ever Gathering!

Here is who you will be learning from:

Also listen to the podcasts from each of the photographers to get a sense of who they are:

Samm Blake and Dan O'Day's Podcast

Fer Juaristi's Podcast

Jen Huang's Podcast

Kirk Mastin's Podcast

John Dolan and Holger Thoss's Podcast

Ozzy Garcia's Podcast

Spencer Lum's Podcast

Todd Reichman's Podcast

Dave Jackson's Podcast

Everyone on the list above will be giving a 40 minute presentation on Feb. 5th and will be leading workshops starting Feb. 6th!

Note: All workshops will be running simultaneously, so you can only do one workshop! There are only 15 spots for each workshop and it’s first come, first serve. Choose wisely!

Note: If you buy a workshop seat you automatically get a ticket to the Celebration, Presentation Day and access to the online recording of the Presentation Day!

I invited these specific people because I feel they are doing things the right way, and they represent a better future for our industry. The days of rockstar photographers needs to come to an end and each of these photographers could not care less about being famous. They simply want to make solid photographs and help people create better work.

Within the industry right now, I see people that are getting tired of the number of workshops that are available. I completely understand that, but I don’t think we need to stop photography education. We simply need better education!

All the photographers and educators who have agreed to take part in the Gathering are people that I respect. They all share a common belief about quality photography and business practices, as well as making the industry healthier. They’ve grown tired of the facades that are often celebrated at WPPI and similar events, so I have no fears about them being able to bring solid information to you.

Thank you for supporting the future of Musea, for launching the Gathering and for helping me make the industry a better place!

Blessings,

Michael Howard
