THANK YOU FOR DONATING TO THE INDUSTRY
What is THE INDUSTRY ?
Changing the way the world is viewed.
Entertainment businesses in Los Angeles, CA are all connected in one-way or another, whether they realize it or not. Whether it’s make-up artists helping on feature films, photographers with fashion shows, directors on music videos and so on and so forth.
That's THE INDUSTRY, all of the fashion, music, photography, and filmindustries together, on a social platform where they can all have the chance to be introduced, but also have the benefits of improving their businesses and or careers.
Why the name "THE INDUSTRY " ?
The term "THE INDUSTRY" is used in many ways. From work to social conversations, with responses such as, "I work in the film industry" to "I've been working in the fashion industry for three years" etc. The entertainment businesses are going to recognize “THE INDUSTRY” right away because it has already been adopted. Before you know it you'll be asking your friends, family, and colleagues "Are you in “THE INDUSTRY” ?
THE INDUSTRY Creators
James Don Hawkins
Lifelong friends born and raised in the small town of Roslyn, WA. They both moved to Los Angeles with high hopes and dreams of working with driven and determined individuals that could match their own.
The Idea. "It's all about who you know, let us introduce you."
The initial idea of "THE INDUSTRY" first came about when Myles Basterrechea moved to Los Angeles. Myles had recently graduated from film school in Seattle and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his film career. James had been living in Los Angeles for four years by this time, so he had a strong social circle to bring Myles into.
One night James invited over a few of his friends that work in the entertainment business. He introduced them to Myles and they preceded to offer him a job opportunity . This greeting sparked the idea in James. If he can bring two people in the same industry together, why not bring all the industries together?
No longer will you have to fight thousands of people for one job position, when you can collaborate with those same individuals and elevate everyone's careers.
We believe we can change the rate at which the quantity and quality of media is produced.
But It All Starts With YOU!
The first step is for you to help get THE INDUSTRY idea out! We need YOU to bring "THE INDUSTRY" idea to people you know in the entertainment community. We need the right people and the publicity for this idea to prosper. For "THE INDUSTRY" to make it all about you, we need you to make it all about "THE INDUSTRY".
What is the Difference?
As of October 2012 one billion people are on the most popular social network site. This site brings everyone in the world together, but caters to such a large audience that it's difficult to help in more specific ways. The site hinders you to the people that you know. If you are looking for a specific person or making a serious business decision, the possibility is there on a social networking site, but you are relying on luck that your friends know the right people or that you've already met the right person.
Recently, more social networking sites making the transition to a business side, but their main aspect is popularity for business growth. If you are an employee or business owner and you are posting on these sites regarding, either or, then you should be targeting a more specific and professional audience. Gambling with your career is not the way business should be done.
As of June 2012 there are one hundred and seventy-five million users using the most popular business networking sites. These sites are specific regarding people in business, but still create disconnect with its users. Being the world's largest professional network may not necessarily help its users. A large interface of businesses make it difficult to navigate and clearly contact the users you need to contact.
"...Don't get me wrong, I think LinkedIn is a great company and there is a need for a professional online networking site in this world. However, it shouldn't be a $10 billion company. Maybe $3 or $4 billion at the most but only if it becomes and remains the world's premiere job searching site, which remains to be seen..." - Adam Gefvert, Investment Writer
Gefvert, Adam. Seeking Alpha. "LinkedIn's Future: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, And The Exceptional." 31 May 2012. Web. 16 December 2012.
Today in the United States, the unemployment rate is staggering, so more people are turning to business networking sites. The problem is that now there are more people searching for jobs on these sites than are offered. How are you supposed to get a job if everyone you are connecting with is also looking for jobs.
An unclear focus on your users leaves a large group of people out of the picture. Especially in the entertainment industry there are more facets to consider than a resume alone.
"More Specific. More Help."
We break down the walls of "It's all about who you know."
At "THE INDUSTRY", we focus on specific people and businesses. When you are using "THE INDUSTRY" you will know exactly who you are connecting with. We will have employers and employees categorized to help users get in touch more quickly. No one will be overlooked because all of the options will be laid out. Leaving no employer or employee to wonder "what if?"
We will connect hard working individuals who have the quality of work that should be noticed. Rather than the ones that are readily available or know someone who knows someone. We will bring them together to build the best working relationships possible.
THE INDUSTRY: Right Now
Facebook Fan Page
Since we do not have the funds to launch "THE INDUSTRY" website, we have to use the next best medium to reach our audience. Facebook has the user base to reach the broadest majority of people quickly to gain popularity.
At this stage of "THE INDUSTRY" popularity is vital. We have the quality idea, but no idea is worthwhile without a supportive audience. So we have created this page to showcase the early stages of "THE INDUSTRY" idea and its users in fashion, music, photo, and film.

Helping Our First Clients
Bentley, a talented DJ in Los Angeles, did not have Industry specific people to broadcast his music. Utilizing the idea behind THE INDUSTRY, Myles with his background in film, was able to connect with Bentley and create this video. The video demonstrates the logic when two different entertainment industries can connect to form one single product.
Besides being online, we understand the value of being in the public and making connections with people in a social environment.
We've been out pitching our idea and networking with the first Industry professionals. The two most common responses that we get are -
"This could help me out so much."
"Why hasn't this been made yet?"
This validates the idea of coddling our users and the urgency of how crucial it is that "THE INDUSTRY" is created.
From the idea that "THE INDUSTRY" started out as, it has grown to a more solid form that we are ready to bring to developers. We have been working on many different styles and formats as rough outlines for "THE INDUSTRY's"social network website.
User Friendly. "You'll stay working in the industry because you're working on THE INDUSTRY."
On "THE INDUSTRY" we will be using features that are designed for the productivity of users. On "THE INDUSTRY" you will be provided with a work space and a 100% fully customizable lifetime resume. This encourages users to stay current and work on other projects when not engaging with other users. We will also be using similar social networking and business networking features from past sites to make the transition to "THE INDUSTRY" easy. In addition to these features we have key features to introduce to our "INDUSTRY" community including:
- Sharing/linking projects with other users
- Sharable calendar feature
- A clear & unique "networking web"
- Different levels of user accounts
- and more!
"THE INDUSTRY" strives to have all of the entertainment companies in our network. As long as you are in "THE INDUSTRY" you are encouraged to join. We will be reaching out to such large, well established companies and getting their support. This will make "THE INDUSTRY" the entertainment hub for all businesses to meet and collaborate with one another.
THE INDUSTRY: Future

RISKS AND CHALLENGES
After being funded by Indiegogo, like other projects THE INDUSTRY will face some risks and challenges. The main problems will be:
Getting our name to YOU!
The main problem that we are going to face is getting THE INDUSTRY name to reach out to the right people. This project will not survive unless we have the support from THE INDUSTRY professionals that we are striving to connect with. If you believe in us and our Indiegogo project please share and get others involved!
