Support a good cause now and help us turn this dream into reality!
“We live in a global community and our care and concern for others often finds us helping in places far from home. We are a nation known for our compassionate and generous people and we make a difference in the world. Humanitarians give freely to those in need. They ask little for themselves and they bring comfort and relief wherever possible. Documenting these acts of care and kindness is a valuable tribute to those who experience the uncertainties of altruism, when they leave the safety and security of our land for often hostile and dangerous places. Our London connection to those serving abroad will create a tangible link to the challenges they face and the changes they make.” Honourable Joe Fontana – Mayor of London, Ontario, Canada
the Faces, the Places, the Challenges
What is The HUMANitarians?
The HUMANitarians is an idea we strongly believe in. It is a recurring dream and careful planning of years. It is a photographic documentary initiative about the human side of voluntary work. It is about feelings, fears and emotions. It is about situational, cultural and personal challenges.
Relief work makes it into the media mainly on the basis of crisis situations. But as much as you hear about the circumstances, little is mentioned about the people who face danger and adversity to help others. It rarely makes the headlines, although the functionality of providing assistance would not be possible without the dedication of field staff.
We would like to give a little credit where credit is deserved and shed some light into the backstage darkness of voluntary medical support. By presenting a different angle to humanitarian work, we aspire to raise awareness and recognition, while honoring the tremendous effort that goes into providing aid. Featuring impressive photographs, personal stories and interviews from the field operations we will pursue compassion and pay tribute to the personalities behind the scenes.
What is your part?
We invite you to dream our dream with us and be a part of something truly majestic. Something that is good, feels good and does good. With your contribution we can bring forward the human elements of such inhumane circumstances and show support to the supporters.
With your gracious generosity we can visit three different geographical locations to offer regionally and culturally diverse context. Emergency assistance is needed in cases of armed conflict, natural disaster, epidemic and health-care exclusion. To deliver insight from these areas, we focus on the regions of West Africa, North India and South-East Asia. Our three-month journey begins at the end of November and we will be steeped in the day-to-day realities beside the field crews.
Who are we?
Juozas is a Canadian artist who has received his BFA from Concordia University in Montreal, and his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is a professional photographer passionate about showing the shadows not just the colors.
Anita is a Hungarian economist, a graduate of Oxford Brookes University (Budapest). She is in constant search of information about people, stories, motivations, thoughts and feelings to find the good in the world.
Together, we run Forward Factory, a web-based enterprise where art and adventure meet charity. It is a forward thinking concept about an artistic approach to providing information, traveling responsibly while helping devotedly.
What do we need and what do we offer?
We need $19,000 to cover the costs of travel and research. We want to do something important. We do not intend to build a house or fly to the moon. We promise that every pledged penny will go towards getting us there and back and getting you as many pictures and stories as possible. The funding for The HUMANitarians - after having paid all the fees - will be used for travel costs (i.e. flights and local transportation), for personal and gear insurances and for food and accommodation. We have modest needs, modest expenses, but big dreams.
We would like to honor your philanthropy by offering unique gifts for believing in us and our dream including archival quality prints, copies of our previous book, recognition and a whole lot of gratitude.
If we surpass our goal? We fly to the moon... Ok, maybe not, but we will get closer to having the material published and being able to offer it to the charity organizations we work with for fundraising and recruiting purposes.
If you can't afford to contribute financially, your support is still needed and highly valued. Please assist us in spreading the word and make some noise to get the ball rolling!
