The Hidden Conditon
Darrell Grant's Journey
On August 18, 2012. I married the man of my dreams. On August 20, 2012, we welcome our son Tiberius into the world. Life was perfect ,so I thought until one morning he woke up with a bad pain in his right side. I took him to the emergency room, they did test. They said it was a mass of nerves. I came home and got on the internet ,and started researching cancer centers and found one in Zion Illinois. They wanted him there August 28, 2012. I was scared, nervous and afraid to leave our 2 week old baby home, and also worrying about our 6 and 7 year old as well. We got there to the Cancer Center, and they ran more test. My worse nightmare came true, my husband had a Hidden Condition, that was stage 4 Colon and Liver Cancer.
Now what do we do?
They immediatly started him on Chemotherapy. We came back to our home in Kinston, North Carolina with many unknown questions not answered.
What do we do in this Cancer land?
They had prepared me for side affects, and told me who to call;however, they never told me the battle I was in store for. The battle begins with sleepless nights, chronic pain, major depression. While watching my husband, so strong (My protecter) telling me he dosen't want to live anymore. No one prepared me for that.
Every day is a battle with my husband. He is always laying in the bed not able to interact with our children, and he has lost his appetite. We are going through this with him, our 3 babies need their mom and dad. While they are watching him suffer day by day, and asking me the question that I must be strong enough to answer. "Will daddy be okay?" When I don't know myself. Darrell has began to bleed from the rectum and now will have to face and extended stay at the Cancer Center.
I am asking for your help. This August will make a year of this constant battle, however, it is taking a toll on us financially. We have spend our 401k, and have no other resources. Our family and chruch has always been there. However this is a financial battle bigger then them.
Our Financial Situation
Darrell takes 28 medication a day. One medication, Xeoda is $800 alone, not mentioning the supplements, and other medications that insurance doesn't cover. He also has to have boost protein shakes, 6 a day to maintain weight, that has dropped dramatically. While we are trying to fight this Hidden Condition. We still have a life to maintain, mortgage, car note, transportaion to and from the Cancer Treatment Center, basic utilites, food, child care, and child nessicites.
We are asking for your help please with this Hidden Conditon that we didn't ask for, and it has taken a dramatic effect on us financially. With your contribution you would help Darrell recieve medication, transportation to and from his doctors, his energy shakes that he needs, as well as helping provide his family with the finacial support. As a way of saying Thank You, the children would like to make a personal Thank You cards and I would like to take pictures while we are there at the Cancer Treatment Center, so you can follow along with us on your journey.
Other ways you can help: You can always provide a gift of any amount of your choice. 100% of every donation will go toward helping Darrell fight his battle to overcome Cancer.
