UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
What's The Harry Potter Journey?
It's a fanbase website, dedicated to know the story behind each Harry Potter book. How it was written, edited, manufactured, promoted, and more. With interviews with the people involved (editors, agents, artists, etc.), and doing a thorough research, we could provide with the best information about the making of the Harry Potter books.
Right now, the project is running as a website and you can visit it right here: www.theharrypotterjourney.com
In the last year, The Harry Potter Journey website was only updated with content about The Chamber of Secrets. Although we would have rather given some new content about the third book, we were working on something different.
When we first released info about The Philosopher's Stone, a lot of material was discarded. We left out information we learnt by doing research, in our journeys through the United Kingdom, and even in interviews.
We wanted to transform the website in something long-lasting, and a book was the answer.
During the last months we have been working on The Harry Potter Journey, Volume 1, which will be the first ebook ever covering the making of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. It will be an extended and revised version of the website, including new and never heard or seen information too.
Editing a book isn't as cheap as it seems, so we need your help.
We need to pay for editors, artists and a few other professionals who have to be involved in the making of the book. To keep costs down and let everyone in any corner of the world read and enjoy the book, it will be only launched in electronic format: an ebook (in pdf, epub and mobi format).
So we are running a crowdfunding campaign, trusting our followers and any Harry Potter fan who want to collaborate with this cause.
The idea, of course, is to create a volume for each Harry Potter book, so that in the future we could end the process with The Harry Potter Journey, Volume 7.
For now, we need your help to start with our first volume.
How can you help?
You can support us with your contribution. Each fund has a perk, which is what you will receive as an appreciation for your help.
Contributions can be paid by credit or debit card or Paypal.
This crowdfunding campaign will end in 45 days, so at the end of February we will be receiving the money and we will start to work on the ebook.
If everything goes as planned, we will release the ebook on June 30, 2013, 16 years after the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
How it will be
So far, we only have imagined it looks, but we need to meet the editors and designers to really know hot it will look. We are sure it wil contain cool texts, photos, information, infography, and even videos.
Yes, if you purchase the book (or contribute in this campaign), you will have exclusive access to videos we recorded in our journey through Edinburgh and London, of Harry Potter related places.
The book will be available in PDF (with photos, infography and the best layour we can achieve), and also in epub and mobi formats, text-only, ready for older devices.
"Incredible! This is truly the best online resource about the books I've ever seen -- much better than Rowling's own anemic efforts, in my opinion. This, combined with the Lexicon and John Kerns' Harry Potter Companion, creates the ultimate Harry Potter resource for those who want to focus on the books."
Steve Vander Ark, creator of The Harry Potter Lexicon
"I've read this first proof earlier today, and I absolutely love it! It has been really entertaining to read, and I even learnt things about the first book's history. I can't wait to read more."
Laurent Garcia, proof-reader.
