If I build it will they come? Not exactly, the model has changed and been replaced by the model of "hustle, hustle, hustle". As it has been said many times over, "Creating a web series is one thing, finding an audience is something else." The Internet is littered with a plethora of web series' looking to find their way in the dark and cold doldrums of the Ether. From a little independent start-up series like The Guillermo de la Marquez Show to more Hollywood-aspired branded entertainment fare, there's a lot of content out there vying for eyeballs. You can visit our web series production hub for more in depth information.
WEBISODE GUIDE : In the Pilot ex-porn star turned Search Engine Entrepreneur Amil Perl appears on The Guillermo de la Marquez Show to promote his new search engine PUSH IT and inadvertently ends up confessing to the murder of his business partner (or at least positioning himself as a prime candidate!)
The Guillermo de la Marquez Show is billed as a mockumentary web series surrounding a "show within a show" (think The Larry Sanders Show without the audience and the rest of the characters!); the framing device is a one-on-one chat show (think Charlie Rose Show with a Latin flavor!); the tone is akin to spoofing (think of the spawn produced if Borat and The Onion mock news source ever did the nasty); the subject matter references the media and technology arena (think This Week in Tech, TechCrunch, mixed with the more pop Valleywag, or Gizmodo, etc). All of these elements are juxtaposed into a hodgepodge of crazy stew!
The show details the fictional chat show host Guillermo de la Marquez, who left his native Spain and prominent family to embark on a US journey when he was seventeen that made him a player on the scene during the dot-com craze, but would eventually leave him near penniless, until his recent resurrection. Tethering his hopes and dreams to the revolutionary pay-cable company Station-A turned Station A-Plus, Guillermo was able to rebuild his brand and reconnect with the industry and culture that had originally made him a star on the digital landscape. With each show an innovator in the media and technology industry sits down with Guillermo one-on-one to discuss the complexity of staying competitive in the digital age.
The Impact: Looking to the Web for Content -- and Pre-Release Buzz
In the words of actress and Internet icon Felicia Day on her blog, "the web needs to be a place to tell stories and present characters that havent been seen... and it was with that understanding that I set about to create something unique that used the framing device of something familiar (talk show) with the intention of subverting the structure and genre of the traditional elements normally associated with a talk-interview show. There are a plethora of quirky little webisodes about quirky little groups of people with their quirks currently residing on the web. Essentially, the market is saturated with this type of vehicle. So, how can a new web series stand out from all of these other projects? Well, the first thing is not to emulate them. The show is loosely scripted with room for the actors to improvise. Thanks to the ubiquitous nature of the web, we have many tools of aggregation at our fingertips! The Guillermo de la Marquez Show seeks to build a strong community of online devoted fans "one funny at a time". We realize the importance of working hard in generating awareness and publicity for our series. Our strategy is to systematically gain visibility and distribute the series among multiplatforms.
Our Needs: How These Funds Will Be Used
The pilot episode of the web series project is currently in post-production. Our fundraiser campaign's goal is $8000 to help raise the production value of the webseries going forward. $$$Monies will be used for pre-production, production and post production means of shooting the series' episodes, some of which (in no particular order) are: editing, upgrade sound equipment, audio sweetening, DVD design and duplication/authoring, artwork, location studio rentals, permit fees/licenses, set dressing, an upgrade in equipment/gear for shooting the next episodes, preparation and distribution of the continuation of the web series via On-Demand at Create Space, web hosting, application fees and digital to tape conversion screeners for entry into New Media and film/video festivals. BREAKDOWN (Equipment): We shot the pilot webisode on Hi-8 and had to convert the analog video to digital, and we never want to do that again! Therefore, in the interest of creating better image quality, sound quality and overall composition our production team is looking to HD to show us the way. More specifically, we would like to acquire the Sony HVR-HD1000 Professional Digital HDV Camcorder. Eventually, it would behoove us to have two cameras to make matching reaction shots in post easier, but in the infant stage we are willing to work with one extremely powerful piece of equipment starting out from the gate.
CHECK OUT "VIP PERKS" INCENTIVES listed on the right hand sidebar! We want to fully integrate your giving into the culture surrounding the making of this series! Contribute as a $5000 Sugar Daddy/Sugar Momma and receive a ticket package(10) to Sundance Film Festival 2011(airfare and accommodations NOT included)!
