Angie and Victor Hungerford started Foundation First with the goal of providing education to those who need it most.
Having travelled extensively and witnessed conditions in impoverished countries across the globe; it is our mission to educate as many children as we can. We want to provide skills to children so they can help lift themselves out of poverty and improve their communities. An education is something you can take with you anywhere. You cannot travel as often as we have, without changing, without wanting to do something. We felt like starting our own non profit to ensure that ALL funds are sent to those in need. Our board of directors, are all unpaid volunteers who believe in education and want to shape a better tomorrow. We want to be part of the soluntions in the world, not the problems.
The Good Grace Primary School in Kacerere, Uganda.
We are currently constructing a primary school for a remote community in southwestern Uganda. Equivalent to grades 1 to 7 in the states, children will learn the basics, as well as agriculture, needleworks, and carpentry. We feel that education is a key element in lifting communities out of poverty. We have an advanced curriculum, as a means of teaching the students, as well as the community, ways to support themselves, and their families. This is more than just a school. We will have a nurses station, library, and clean water that will provide for the whole community and surrounding areas. For more on our project, we invite you to visit our website, http://buildingforchange.org
At this point, the school is close to completion. Your donations, will help us put a roof on our existing seven classroom structure. We can then begin the detailing phase (windows, plaster on outside walls, doors, painting, blackboards and benches for our students.) Once the school is complete, we then focus our efforts on opening the school in Feb. 2013. Each classroom will hold 30 students; educating over 200 students per term. Your donations help us find books, backpacks, and wages for our teachers as they earn less than $2 a day. It will cost 50 cents to feed one student a meal per day. Your donations will help feed our students.
Uneducated children in underdeveloped countries have limited outcomes in life. Either they follow in their parents footsteps, turn to lives of crime, get involved in human trafficking, or become soliders. Providing education not only gives them hope for a meaningful life, but allows them to help others in their community.
Help us help others, and share with your friends and family. Help us get the word out about this project, and bring awareness to your community. Be a part of your global community and be the change you want to see in the world!
