Short SummaryLet's improve our economy, our national security and our environment all in one simple step - by driving electric! $1.5T per year is leaving our economy for foreign oil and military support and that is way too much (http://www.rmi.org/rftransportationexecutivesummary). Let's get off foreign oil and use local electrons to move us around. This is not as much of a technical challenge as a political one and a public awareness issue - and that's where crowd funding can make a difference. Here's a recent article called "Electric Vehicles Strengthen US Competitiveness" - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/phyllis-cuttino/electric-vehicles_b_2059945.html
What We Need & What You GetI've already built a prototype and it works well. I can do much better by using composite materials, computer-controlled manufacturing and lithium batteries. I have the skills and experience required and the support of a very talented team. We need funding for tools, supplies and overhead for the shop. This requires Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines, honeycomb panels, electric drive systems and battery packs with battery management systems. A desktop CNC and a desktop 3D printer will be used to create one-quarter scale models. A large CNC is required for the full-size prototypes along with parts and materials. At least two versions will be built using the same frame - an economy version and a performance version. The website will be updated at least weekly with pictures, video and all information about the builds (including CAD files and parts lists).
The main focus is the frame design. The rest of the vehicle will be relatively easy since other similar vehicles have been built based on the same or similar components. All parts will be off-the-shelf and simple to install on the frame. This project will produce plans, parts and complete vehicles so that people can build their own, buy a kit, or get a fully-assembled vehicle. In addition to the frame, all attachment brackets will be provided, and wiring harness will be prefabricated. This project will result in open-air vehicles, registered as motorcycles in most states (check your local laws). After this project is completed, work will continue to provide bodies that can be added if desired.
