My name is Matthew Ward, and my wife's name is Erin. We currently reside on the East side of Saint Paul, Minnesota with 2 Italian greyhouds, 1 golden retreiver and 2 cats. I was very close friends with Erin"s brother in Highschool, and that is when I met her. We went our seperate ways and reconnected through facebook (of all places) a few years down the road. We hit it off and fell in love. We were married in the fall of 2010, and over these past few years we have have adopted our animals. Our animals are a huge part of our lives, and couldn't imagine a day with out them! But we want to expand our family on a human level as well. Ever since the beginning, we have talked about adopting our own children. Erin was adopted herself and sees adoption as the biggest calling she has ever had, and we both have wanted to adopt since we were teenagers.
Erin has traveled to many places around the world. She has experiences that most people will not have their lifetime. She loves children and has a desire to help kids in need. Just out of college, Erin completed an internship at Walt Disney World expanding her horizons. During her travels, Erin developed an affection for children with special needs and children with out the comfort and safety of a family unit. Erin loves to volunteer for the under priviledged. A couple of years ago, she was offered an opportunity to give back to the community working with Americorps. She completed 1 year of service volunteering with families as a PCA for children with special needs. She is thankful everyday for that experience. Erin continues to volunteer, and will continue to do so through out her entire life.
After Highschool, I went to school off and on for about 2 years. Upon the completion of my second year, I decided I was going to follow one of my dreams of being in the military. I enlisted in the U.S. Army and joined the Infantry. I was medically discharged after completing infantry school, came back home and worked for about a year. My experience in the military was one that I will never forget. It gave me the skills to succeed in life and teach others to do the same. The military is responsible for the increase in my cultural awareness. It expanded my horizons, and taught me that I am stronger than I thought, and with a little will power, determination, and heart I can accomplish the goals I set out before me. After working for about a year after the military, I knew that I had to finish school to get where I want to be in my life. During my first semester back in school, I studied abroad for the summer in Mexico. Traveling to different orphanages, I saw the amount of unwanted children and I knew that my wife and I could provide a loving home for these kids. I am now in the process of completing my B.A in criminal justice.
There are so many kids out there in need of a home. During our research, we have found that many kids are passed over for specific needs that should not make them unadoptable. We have found that the amount of HIV positive children waiting for homes is catastrophically high. With the amount of strides that modern medicine has made in the HIV epidemic, it is possible for these kids to live normal lives with possibly minimal special medical care. We want to give a kid that is passed up due to the lack of knowledge on the HIV virus a life worth living.
We decided that we wouldn't talk about children for atleast 1 year after our wedding to allow us time to just be married. After our 1 year anniversary, we started the adoption talks and are starting to look into the process. International adoption is about $33,000 dollars, that is why we are asking for your help! Help us a give a child a loving home.
