We are adapting the classic book THE DAMNED THING, written by Ambrose Bierce, a writer during the American Civil War; who himself completely disappeared at the end of his life, a mystery that remains unsolved still to this day!
The story is about a strange writer, who lives alone in the wilds of the west during the 1880's, and the mystery surrounding his death; was it murder or something else? As his friend begins to explore the mystery surrounding his death, the audience is taken on a thrilling adventure filled with suprises and scares.
THE DAMNED THING is the fourth film in our series NEW CHILLING TALES. This is a series of short Classic Horror films, from stories by the great classic writers, Edgar Allan Poe, WW Jacobs, Charlotte Perkins Gilman. We have made three so far, all showing on PBS Idaho. The first three flms are BEWARE OF WHAT YOU WISH FOR (THE MONKEY'S PAW), THE TELL-TALE HEART and THE YELLOW WALLPAPER. We love these gothic tales and we are telling them in their purest form without added gimmick, as we feel the stories stand on their own.
Comments from our Viewers
"Thank you so much for the absolutely exquisite Beware of What You Wish For, and the Tell Tale Heart (I'm saving the Yellow Wallpaper till dark. The definitive version (for me) of the Monkey's Paw was always the Orson Welles one, from 73...It terrified me beyond words, when I was a boy! With that version being unavailable for decades, I always felt modern audiences were missing out, on a truly authentic version. So a thousand thanks for making my dream come true.
A delightful introduction by the Brit-stalwart, Martin Jarvis...Then a wonderful dark chiller for any night. (Our entire family have enjoyed this, even our youngest sons 13 & 15! We are looking forward to the Yellow Wallpaper (Tonight's viewing). But if you please; What else is in the pipeline? Many Thanks for rekindling some childhood memories of watching the best Horror stories in the world, made by an extremely talented lady."
The Tell Tale Heart: "I love this movie it so great and da book"
Beware of What You Wish For: " Incredible"
The Yellow Wallpaper:
"This is excellent. Thanks for sharing Jane."
We are shooting in amazing location in rural Idaho. Burgdoff is a heavily wooded area surounded by mountains. We will be filming in old cabins that were built in the 1860s. There is no electricity, no runing water, no civilization. This will paint an authentic feel and look to our story.
Cast and Crew
The film features George Hemmings son of David Hemmings.
The film will be directed by Jesse Cordtz, who also directed THE YELLOW WALLPAPER. Jesse will also edit the Production and create the special effects. Jake Kuwana our Director Of Photography on THE YELLOW WALLPAPER will DP THE DAMNED THING. I am delighted that they will be on the film as they are the core of our excellent team. Stan Carey co-writer of the script is a CGI artist, special effects co-ordinator and video editor. Stan also has advanced 3-D animation and modeling skills. That, linked with his writing skills, makes him pretty talented!
We will be using the latest technology, software, and hardware available. We will film on the legendary RED camera, which has been used on many Hollywood films including THE GREAT GATSBY, HITCHCOCK, THE HOBBIT, and IRON MAN 3; we are extremely fortunate to be able to shoot with this great camera.
The money we raise will allow us to bring this epic story to life. The money will go into the costs associated with renting of equipment, paying the cast and crew, transportation, costumes, and cost of locations. It will also help pay for post production, visual effects and audio work. We cannot do this without your help.
Good scripts and the writing are the basis of all good films and who better than these Masters of the Story. With your help, we can make incredible film by an extraordinary writer, who fought in the Civil War and whose imagination is astonishing and forward thinking.
