The Daily Music Break Posts Music Regardless of Era or Genre--Help Improve It

The Daily Music Break features great music regardless of era or genre. Contributions are for traffic building, a site redesign, a mobile app and other upgrades.

Hello. I am Carl Weinschenk, the founder of The Daily Music Break.

The Daily Music Break posts great music regardless of era or genre. Leonard Bernstein and House of Pain. The Clancy Brothers and Jimi Hendrix. Miles Davis and The Lumineers. Mississippi John Hurt and Claude Debussy.

The Daily Music Break is all over the map—because that’s where the talent is. We’ve posted about 500 times since we launched a year ago.

We are asking for funds to redesign the site, increase traffic through search engine optimization and launch new music search and recommendation features. We also will develop a mobile app. We also plan to introduce  features such as podcasts and social networking.

TDMB – which can be described as a curated video site – lets people browse as they do on many sites. That's a good start, and we invite you to check out what we've done so far.

Your generosity will help us take it a step further. Today, people use iTunes, YouTube and other aggregation sites, band- or genre-specific satellite radio channels and other tools to find music they love. That’s great, of course. The downside is that the technology makes it less likely that we will stumble on to new music.

Our goal is to help people make connections between different types of music. We want a Flogging Molly fan to find Louis Armstrong. We want a Thelonious Monk fan to find Run-DMC. We want a Lianne La Havas fan to find Sarah Vaughan. We want a Bill Monroe fan to find The North Mississippi Allstars. We want a Aaron Copland fan to find Jeff Beck.

Music is a continuum in which the lines between ages and genres are not as stark as some people imagine. The connections can be between different genres or across time -- or completely random. It's all notes and chords and harmonies and melodies. It's all connected and it's all great.

Please visit The Daily Music Break, signup up for our daily or weekly alert and, perhaps, contribute as we plan our future.

And keep listening to great music.
