past summer, my wife, Michelle, and I took our niece Audrey to Europe
so that she could experience the sights and sounds of London, Paris and the Loire Valley. Audrey was born with myopic degeneration and a number of other visual impairments. Seeing Europe was Audreys dream. This journey was an educational field trip for precious Audrey; it was also a heart-opening experience for Michelle and me.
opportunity to observe little Audrey interacting in new ways, absorbing
the cultures of Europe, and taking in the sights and sounds around her was a
remarkable experience. We took her to the top of the
Eiffel Tower, enjoyed high tea at the Savoy Hotel in London and visited
famous museums including the Muse d'Orsay, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, and the Louvre.
wanted to find ways to document the trip that Audrey would be able to
enjoy many years from now. We also made audio recordings to accompany the
many photos and videos we shot.
Our month with Audrey generated enough material to warrant a feature length film and companion book. We want to share this extraordinary experience with others on the big screen. The only way I can convey the profundity of our experience with Audrey is through the medium of film. Our goal is to finish the final cut of this film so that Audrey will be able to watch it with us before her vision deteriorates further. Another goal of ours is to make this film available to educational and medical institutions that help visually impaired people.

A Note About the Filmmaker
Previously, I documented my mother's experience with Alzheimer's by creating the film I'M NOT FICTIONAL. In the face of adversity, I feel
that it is important to celebrate the fun, humor, and resilience of
the human spirit. You can view a clip of that film at: http://www.tomsewell.com/includes/fictional.php
ENIGMA OF THE MILL depicts my fascination with Hawaii's sugar mills and the art of industry. Using six industrial Sony video projectors and musical accompaniment I created this multi-media operatic video installation which can be viewed at: http://www.tomsewell.com/includes/enigma.php
